I wonder when a bid for 777 Capt and FO will come out. Will they hire FOs off the street or will there be an internal bid first? Do I need to have the word “turd” in this post so it won’t go unnoticed?

I see a lot of good information here. I'm planning to put my application in kalitta Air soon, just have a quick question if someone knows...

I see that one of the requirements is a "Valid US Passport", which I have... However I don't have a "US Security Clearance". Will that be an issue? I can't think any other reason why they want to see a valid passport.

Happy landings

You have to be able to pass a security check. The US government is one of our customers. A valid US passport is as much of a requirement as being able to read for obvious reasons. To go even further, you need to be able to travel to any country without restrictions. Nature of the business.

To anyone thinking about coming to K4, understand that there will always be a few individuals that somehow get past the screening process and make it to the line. Take a moment and look past the behavior of this clown, as he is not indicative of the professional men and women that you will be working with.
Let's be honest, the pilot group is less forgiving than anyone in building #2 when it comes to people that demonstrate horrible decision making and/or lack of skills. Word gets around faster than the Borg collective.

I believe it’s called an “abner” now.

When ever an airline brings in a new type, they have an "initial cadre" of people hand selected, with preference to pilots who already have a type rating. After the initial cadre goes through and establishes the operation, everyone gets to bid. New hires may also be given the aircraft depending on needs.
Please correct me if I am wrong.

I know FedEx specifically states "US security clearance" on their job requirements but kalitta does not, they just say "Valid US passport".... I was just wondering if that was the reason for the requirement.
Don't worry about it Chimster. Just link your Tinder profile to the application, there's a hyperlink on the application, and send you last stool sample analysis results via UPS (now you know what Brown can do for you) to the interview sight for prior inspection. These two steps are those that the most successful candidates use to stand out during the interview. If you have a travel guitar that's a great bonus. Usually, but not always, at least two candidates will have a little jam for the HR staff prior to testing. I heard and wish I'd been there for the last group that I'm told did an outstanding Funk/Fusion/Bluegrass rendition of "Brown Betty". One of the dudes could beat-box really well and he didn't even have to go to day two. (I also heard there was a candidate that wanted to get into that jam with a mandolin but the guitarists wouldn't let him join because they said that mandolin players weren't cool enough.) Best of luck.

(A bro told me the other day he was at breakfast at the New World when a nube (who mentioned he played mandolin at the "Kity Cat" the previous night) walked in and everyone started snickering. The nube was clueless and when he turned to go get the awesome egg-kimchi-spam casseroloe someone fake coughed "Emmylou". The bro's cracked up. Don't even mention mandolins unless you want to be Emmylou-ed)

((Chimster-someone, probably a mandolin player, is going to rebut my advise. My advice to you is to check their post count. If it's less than 5 they probably don't even work at K4 and are a troll.))

(((Finally, whatever you do don't eat the small powder sugar coated confections in the break room. That's Turkish Delight and it's been there for like 7 months now.)))

((((They're pretty selective so if you get am interest on Tinder after at the hotel after day one; whatever you do don't swipe left. That's a career killer.))))

Chimster I'm picking up a vibe from your post that is very genuine and warm, So, I'll let you in on a few other things.

1) One of the interviewers is a huge Kevin Costner Fan so bring your best "Waterworld" and "Tin Cup" quotes. If you can do a good Cheech Marin imitation that's golden.

2) Change your screen name to something like Heavy Metuhl. A chimitaro is a deep fried taro root wrap with a dried fish filling dusted with sugar that's served at breakfast at the Century in Taipei. Nobody likes it.

3) When asked why you want to work for K4 the standard replies aren't going to work. I'd go for something like I want to "Push Tin". (One interviewer is a huge John Cussak fan, as if the Angelina Jolie calendar from 1999 in the men's room isn't a big enough hint).

4) If they ask if you are in the pool at XO Jet or Delta Private Jets just tell the truth. They don't ask questions they don't already know the answer to.

That's about it and I'm sure your sincerity alone is probably enough to get you to day two but it's pretty competitive out there so you should bring your A game.

Finally don't mention Iraqi Dinar's. Some guys are holding thousands of US Dollars worth of them and still waiting for them to skyrocket in the currency trade. As a matter of fact play dumb if they even hint that they think you might know something about currency trading or currency exchange rates. One recent candidate ended up going home with a job offer and about a million dollars in Iraqi promissory notes he bought from someone behind the generator station outside the Sim bays.

Oh yeah, if you've read a book that didn't download free from Amazon or from your local library then nobody has read it so don't waste your time.

This is the last thing really, but might be crucial for your successful evaluation. There are a series of control questions on the exam and the answer is always, I mean always, Shiner Bock. (Mandolin player's drink Pilsner's)
