Class size for the 747-400 has been reduced to a much more manageable 8 every 3 weeks and should continue for a while longer. If more aircraft are found (awarded) expect training to increase.

The short answer is that nobody really knows as there are too many things outside of the Companies control right now. It would be completely realistic to think upgrades will continue to go below 2 years, to upgrades going to 5-7-10 years. Please don’t make your decision to work at K4 based on upgrade. When I started in 2011 upgrade on the Classic was 1 year. We furloughed 5 months later.
When they told me that (2 year upgrade), I told myself 5 years if things go well.
I’ve seen cargo before. When things go south they get ugly very quickly for cargo.

That time I believe it was 6-8. There was an earlier furlough in 2008-09 that was much larger. However, nearly half of the FO list had a TBD (To Be Determined) furlough date next to their names for the next 12-14 months. And over the course of the next 18 months almost all of the Flight Engineers lost their jobs. For those of us in the lower half of the FO list or the bottom 1/4 of the captains list it was a very unsettling time. Remember the airline was much smaller then so as a percentage of the pilots there were a lot of us in jeopardy. Fortunately the economy improved, fuel prices decreased and Connie made some savvy moves and things turned around. Just like investments, past performance is no guaranty of future loss or gains.

Do you know if the DHL award was announced?

The irony of DHL being about to " award " brand new 777F's to the likes of Atlas , Polar , Southern and Kalitta while they and 1224 protest and plan strike action underlines the leverage that would seem to exist between DHL and any possible CMI operator. It wouldn't be the first time that the lowest and likeliest bid would not succeed. Put yourself in their shoes. Who deserves them ?

By “ they and 1224” do you mean DHL and 1224 or the carriers and 1224.

I only ask because Kalitta is not part of 1224 and what would we have to protest against right now?

I meant those carriers and 1224. I'm aware K4 is not represented by the Teamsters.

K4 could end up being the big winner here.

Everything comes around....especially when you are buying aircraft and expanding for DHL needs.
