Question for military pilots
I may be wrong but don't most companies have you multiply your time by 1.3? Why is that?

Most companies have military guys add .3 hours to each sortie, not multiply their time by 1.3. This is because the military only logs flight time from takeoff to landing and does not include the taxi out or in as part of the block time.

It's really not as big of a deal as you may think. I had about 500 sorties as a tanker pilot. 500 X .3 = 150 hours. Fighter pilots fly a whole lot more sorties, but it'd be hard for them to have more than 500 hours added due to the conversion. On a training sortie we usually do a thorough debrief of 30 minutes also. I have a new friend with 3700 hours in the F-16. That's probably around 1500 sorties, which is another 450 hours. |
I've been in the USAF for 20 years and have 2165 sorties(C-21, C-141, C-17). That's 649.5 hours! That's enough to get me back over 5000 after I take out my other time. I'm glad that most companies allow a conversion factor.

Maybe they debrief in the jet with the engines running since they have all that extra JP-8...

FWIW, I think FedEx only gives .2 hr per sortie. From what I've heard JetBlue does do a whole 1.3 for all of your time. Thats a pretty big boost...

Not a math major but 1000 x 1.3 = 1300
1000 x .3 = 300 300 + 1000 = 1300 Same result...pretty sure they tell you to mult your time by 1.3, not add 1.3 to your time... |
