Trans Air 737 info???
 

Does anybody have any info on the Trans Air 737 position? I'm specifically trying to see if one could commute from the lower 48? Or do you have to live in Hawaii? Any info would be great. Feel free to PM me as well.

Such a bad idea. 5-6 hour commute? If you want to stay on mainland then get a job on the mainland. Keep it simple. 737 rating is nothing to wet your pants over and kill yourself with a tough commute. Besides you don’t build up very much time with .4 hour trips in the middle of the night.

Good point. Though I wouldn't be doing it to "build time" per say. I'm more looking at it to get some PIC time. But you're right... probably not worth the commute time either.

It's a two year training bond they don't tell you about. They had some housing for thirty days to get you settled but the Middle Eastern owner took that away. They will work you to death too and you will be threatened a lot. Just do some past research on Transair. Commuting to HNL would be difficult as they don't have much access to jumpseats on real airlines. I think it would be hit and miss getting to HNL.


Do you also happen to know how expensive AND BLOODY NOISY, HNL is. You're home every night for day sleep, rinse and repeat. It's hell on the body!

What are the flight and duty times typically per day?
From what I understand it's mostly M-F. I've done a lot of searching but there's very little about this company.

Read my earlier post. A 737 rating is not worth murdering yourself with a 6 hour commute or high price of living here. The reason you don’t hear much about this place is it’s kind of like that not so pretty girl you hooked up with. You regretted it instantly and kept it as quiet as you could. Same applies here. You will regret instantly and keep it quiet as the others have and desperately try to find a prettier airline so you can forget about this one. Get out before you’re on the hook for that 2 year training contract.

Transair Hawaii really Sucks
I was hired because of my B737type rating. I thought it should be easy. Company has a condo in HNL during ground school with crazy rules. Cannot be in the living room without a shirt even it was hot and no A/C in the condo. Cannot do anything after 5 pm time " company call quiet time" after 5 pm or no cooking. The Condo has a TV camera that watches, what everything in the condo. Stupid reason to get rid of you and I was let go after 3 days. " told me that I lack CRM" Ha Ha. I use to teach CRM in university aerospace program. small company and you have to kiss ass to make it thru and live with Hawaiian customs which I didn't have any problem with but if HR people do not like you, you are done. The first day when I arrive in HNL and waiting at the airport to be picked up by HR person about an hour later. I was waiting in the hanger, I saw short 330 in the hanger and I thought about checking it out. HR person came out and gave me **** and I had to talk to the owner and HR people and had my ticket ready to return home. I apologize and said " I am sorry and will not happen again. Now, I knew that HR didn't like me and the next day she called DO and made the same complaint and DO say I do not have CRM and let me go.

I wanted to go to the University of Hawaii to be in the Astronomy Department to teach because I already had a master degree and hoping to work on my Ph.D.

Just wanted to tell my fellow pilots, be careful if you do decide to take a job with Transair Hawaii

Care to tell us why you took the job when people like me were telling you not too? Just wanna know what needs to be said to discourage others in the future.
