I know it might be splitting hairs but for people at the beginning of a piloting career 500 hours is a lot. I couldn't quite believe your statement so I went to the Southern site myself. The exact requirements as copied from their website are as follows:
Hold a current unrestricted ATP certificate with an airplane category multi-engine class rating and English proficiency endorsement
Hold a current FAA First Class Medical Certificate
Hold an FCC Restricted Radiotelephone Operator Permit
Hold a valid passport with no restrictions on international travel
Legally authorized to work in the United States
Have a minimum of 1500 hours of total time
Military conversion of .3 per sortie
Have a minimum of 500 hours of turbine time
Have a minimum of 1000 fixed wing or 500 hours with a 121 carrier
Minimum age of 23 (all Southern pilot positions are subject to FAA 121 mandatory retirement regulations)
Do you have the ability to pass a 10 year security background check and a DOT pre-employment test.

With regionals offering bonuses and paths to mainline and all the other ACMI/LCC carriers offering much better pay and bennies Atlas/Southern has become the last choice for many. Come on over to a dead end job where you can gain valuable experience being away from your family and going without sleep while disrupting your circadian rhythm over and over. But at least you won’t have to worry about the lack of retirement, you won’t live long enough to see it!

Indeed. If I were a young pilot in my 20’s with no attachments or constraints, it’d be a no brainer to go to a regional that’s offering the things you mention.
I’ll tell ya.... What I really can’t believe are the ones who left a regional right before they could have upgraded, to come to Atlas. What are you thinking?!

You need look no further than the targeted ads on this website, they used to tout career earnings. Now they might as well say “join Atlas and get selfies eating food in cool places!” They have pivoted to marketing the job as the aviation equivalent of a “year abroad” after college before settling down and getting a real job.

I fully expect Atlas to wait out things since they went this direction. Usual corporate mentality. Waiting on the soon determined arbitration results as the motivator of where they/we go, so as to them not leaving any money on the table for us if possible.
