Birdsmash is right.

The truth ought to be enough of a warning to prospective pilots.

a little off-topic, but can any one explain what the heck gateway basing is for the 777? How's does it work for someone that lives in the SE, and how does it effect your net income at the end of the year?

Back to the rig question...

Got it, you get 4.85 credit minimum per day because of the rig. But it is a trip rig, not a duty rig right? So you take 4.85 X 17 days =82.45 (I understand there will be half days so it's a little more complicated I'm just saying 17 days for simplicity.) Then you compare that with total flight time for the month? Say 75 hours? Trip rig wins and you get paid/credited 82.45 hours? Also, is the rig clock running while you are deadheading on day 0 or day 18? Or is it just the flat 25% deadhead pay tacked on to the rig time?

Thanks.

That is correct on how the rig (CRT as it’s called) would pay, however, gateway is not considered DH, and is unpaid. Rig time doesn’t start until your first operating flight, and ends prior to your gateway travel home. There is a multitude of other factors that can reduce rig pay, like calling sick or sitting reserve at home. It’s a complicated system and and this is probably a gross oversimplification but maybe it’ll give you an idea.

Or taking vacation or having training days during a trip.

Any month that you have vacation or training or have to call in sick you almost always get paid minimum monthly guarantee of 62 hours.

CRT (Trip Rig) pay does not run on day zero (getting to work) or on day 18 (getting home from work). On average rig will pay you about 72 hours most months while working a normal trip but there is no guarantee above the 62 hours and often a month of pay will be destroyed by a few little changes made last minute by scheduling.

Budget for 62 hours. With the current contract, planning on living on anything above that is financially reckless.

Not only does CRT not apply to your gateway (commute) to work... but it doesn't apply to your "company-mandated" 10 hour rest required between your gateway flight and your first flight of the pattern. So conceivably, depending on the length of your flight to work and the flights available, you could be leaving home a minimum of 12 hours and as many as 36 hours (think it's an exaggeration????? Try gateway from southern Florida to ANC in the offseason!!!) without being compensated 1 penny... no, not even per diem!
