Well, my “scenario” is strictly based on the Greg Feith statement that autopilot and autothrottles were both on the whole time...

As far as radio transmissions, of course each flight varies, but I thought it could be significant enough to mention, because operating in the terminal area, especially avoiding weather, both pilots are “typically” fully engaged in their respective duties.

Even if... The A/P on the 76 is not that strong folks, there is no way that it could fight two pilots and go to 49 degrees of pitch, there has to be something else here.

Depends, If you select more than 3,000 feet of altitude change then yes, it commands 2,000 FPM, if less than that it will do a shallow climb of about 1,000 FPM. If there was no altitude to target on the level window, it will just cycle through the G/A mode and then just go to ALT HOLD and open the speed window at whatever speed you are currently at.

Again, I don’t know the 76, don’t fly it, but does it have a thing called control wheel steering, where the autopilot is technically still engaged, but you have control of the pitch with the yoke?

If you have 200 ft in the mcp window and hit GA it will still command a 2k ft/min climb and never hit alt cap...it doesn't matter what you have set in the mcp window if GA mode is armed and becomes active

If you are responding to the control wheel steering question the 76 does have it

It has CWS? I don't think it does. 744 doesn't have it.
