Default Immunization for new job

I start training soon for a new job (international cargo) and they want me to bring in my immunization record. They said if you don't have this, necessary immunizations will be provided for you.

That being said, what shots are they looking for? Also, anyone get sick after getting their shots?

Just take the shots. Measles is going through Hong Kong at the moment, who knows what will be next.

Probably yellow fever. That seems to be the one many people lack.

Yellow fever, generally. When I got mine, the nurse who administered it also recommended typhoid and hepatitis A. I decided to get those also. To my surprise, my company reimbursed me for all of them (not just the yellow fever that they told me I needed), even though I didn't even request reimbursement.

Appropriately treated in a first world hospital the mortality of yellow fever is only 20%. Are you seriously worried about your arm aching for a few days?

Great, thanks. I presume that I'll have to get HEP A, Tdap, yellow, and typhoid. I was also curious if rabies was something other people got in case they ventured outside the hotel on a long layover?

Yellow Fever is the only required shot. Its unavailable, as the facility that manufactured the vaccine has been unavailable since early last year. A French substitute is in use.

Some countries placed a 10 year limit on the shot; by international agreement, all nations are to recognize a lifetime value for the shot.

You're best off getting immunized for other pathogens. Numerous outbreaks occur around the world, and if you're flying in Africa, regular multiple outbreaks of cholera and other diseases are common.

All the standard vaccinations should be current, including your tetanus shot.

Can you get sick when getting shots? Yes. I have. You should still get them.

Appreciate the response. Definitely getting all the shots, just was debating getting them before or during training. I'll look more into the yellow fever immunization. Thanks for the info

I got flu-like symptoms about a week after yellow fever that lasted about a week.
