I’ve had unspoken and sometimes spoken “issues” regarding working overseas. If you weren’t working for Emirates or Qatar, you’ll have a harder time getting on with a major or fed ex, ups than a current US 121 pilot. I don’t care what anyone on this or any forum says to the contrary. I can even predict that someone is going to chime in that someone in their new hire class was doing so and so and didn’t have an issue. It’s not impossible, it’s just more complicated.

Actually, your right on the Foreign Tax Credit but that is the partial story. First the government considers you a contractor which means you need to pay your taxes quarterly. Secondly, and much more importantly you are always responsible for paying your Social Security taxes. If you ever expect to make a claim on SSI you better have payed it. I'm not just talking about retirement here. If you become disabled and run through your money and the SS Administration finds out you didn't pay years ago they WILL deny your claims. Be very careful on how you play the taxman game as an expat.

They don’t consider you a contractor. You’re considered a citizen that has paid income tax. I’m not referring to the foreign tax exemption below $90 something thousand. I’m referring to your percentage of income you are taxed on while abroad. So if you’re taxed 30% before your pay hits your account while working in xyz country, and that rate is higher than in the US, you’re off the hook for federal income tax. I don’t know about the SS amount. That’s not really a tax though. It’s a contribution. My accountant does my taxes and several other expats. Most are working in mining and “security”.

4runner if you are working oversea and have done it you can speak. If not just shut your mouth because your are talking our your a**. Yes, you get a credit of 109,000 a year and keep increasing every year from when I started in 2007 wish was 90,000, yet when you report earning of 300k a year you have to do other things so your tax liability is reduce, So go f*@$ yourself and know what you are talking about before going and insulting someone that you do not know.
Cheers

You confirmed. Dumbass, not BS. You’re not American either. I can tell by your syntax. Is there some BS involved too? You used an agency and they paid you and not the airline directly. Sorry, mea culpa. Use your words and stop having temper tantrums. You did a 1099 and didn’t have the $$$ to pay Uncle Sam.

Yeah. That’s another legit and well known carrier. Try working for an African one and let’s see furrowed brows and ackward glances between members of a hiring board. There’ll be some shifting in seats too. I’m not the only one...
