Default RJs for Cargo

Ok I've had these thoughts before so I guess I'll test the waters...Bear in mind that I have little knowledge of RJs.....At ABX Air we run 9s on the little runs....9s are not cost effective so....why cant those runs have an RJ on it???? What is the payload of an RJ....I know it can fly cheaper than a 9 but what can it haul???? We used to to take 2 DC-8s with 25k a peice to ORD.....could two RJs handle 50K???? Fill me in folks....Dont brow beat me, and stupid statements come from lack of knowledge

If I remember, max payload for a EMB-145XR was around 11,800 (with 4hr range mind you). Now that's with the seats, over head bins, side walls, galley, FA, etc etc. What more they could get with taking out the furnishings though may not be enough to cover for the empty pallet weights and the necessary floor modifications. It might work for long and thin routes, but I doubt it.

MGTOW of the CRJ 200 is 53000, BOW (including 50 seats, overhead bins, lav, galley/galley cart) was 31,000+/-.
hope it helps,
iball

edit: max fuel on the above CRJ is 14500. IIRC, it burns 4k the first hour, 2800-3000 every hour after hour 1.

The AVRO would have decent space, but maintaining four engines is expensive. There are turboprops that carry the same lift for alot less cash.

31k is a decent load for short haul routes...the avro runs in Europe somewhere doesnt it...hell it beats putting 25k in an old diesel 8 not sure about the long term though....surely somebody has already done the math on this and has found its not worth it.

I read that as a BOW of 31K, toss on 6-8-10-12K whatever lbs of fuel. Payload would be 17-15-13-11K, or there abouts.
