When you're counting up a potentially "22 hour day" where that pilot is going to be landing a 300,000 KG jet? Remember that it's really just a "22 hour day" since Scheduling can and does extend for virtually anything. Yeah... It's probably smart to count that hour since the pilot isn't resting. Just in the name of safety... Not that Atlas Management cares anything about being safe...

If we were talking about an 8 hour day that the people do at those jobs where they're not flying that airplane over my daughter's kindergarten class, then I'm cool with not counting it.

Fire fighters in my area work 24 hour shifts, my son is a cop, he works 12 hour shifts and routinely has to stay over if working a case or accident. Aircraft mechanics and dispatchers work double shifts. I'm not saying our duty days aren't brutal sometimes. I've been flying around the world for thirty years this month and it can be a killer but the hour that you get up before show time is the same that every other career has. I know guys that lay everything out and get up 15 minutes before lobby time. I've got to have a shower and some coffee time. To each their own.
