Default Bezos in CVG

So here we have the richest guy in the world making an appearance at the groundbreaking ceremony for the 1.5 Billion Amazon hub in CVG , and nobody seems to be talking about it , let alone recognizing and appreciating the ramifications of this. Game changing ? Absolutely. FedEx / DHL / UPS should be worried.

There is no money to be made in the ‘last mile’ delivery. Service levels will not be where it needs to be to be sustainable. We shall see.

Labor should be worried, more downward pressure on wages.

Management at ATSG/Atlas should be worried. Labor let it be known to Bezos that all is not well. Have a feeling that Soap is in a lather.

DHL and Amazon since about 3 years ago have been working closely to develop this hub.

Amazon currently runs the DHL hub during all daytime operations. Rumor is that Amazon in about a year will operate the DHL hub 24/7 and it will eventually be switching over into Amazon colors.

The funny thing is that we see tons of Amazon vans all over Memphis right now... But no Amazon planes. They have a huge distribution facility but no planes on the ramp. I wonder how all that stuff gets here... Until Bezos starts paying you guys during a pilot shortage I'm not horribly worried.

Actually, DHL operates and staffs its hub, whereas ATSG ran the ILN thing at the beginning of Amazon's experiment. Amazon is just a guest at DHL. Amazon has outgrown DHL and wants to sort at times other than when DHL makes its facility available to Amazon. That's why all recent growth in the Prime Air network has been point-to-point, bypassing CVG.

Amazon's new facility will be run by Amazon or a contractor. Little or nothing to do with DHL.

The "ready-to-strike" campaign towards Bezos will accomplish nothing. It's just a feel-good effort by the Union to rally the troops.

A smarter move would be to lobby the military to stand down Atlas from all military flights because the Houston accident could just as easily have been a planeload of troops.

Truth!

We don't know who they are, but 230 military personnel and their families literally dodged a bullet.

I'm quite sure AMC is closely watching.

They are trucking it in to Memphis from Covington or surrounding distribution centers. Using a UPS model where most of the Second Day Air or Next Day Air in a certain radius never touches a plane.
