Since we're throwing out techniques, and I know there are a ton of solid ones out there,... VFR (landing north), I plan for two approaches at destination then to be able to get to my alternate w/o declaring "minimum fuel."

What I don't understand is why they don't recognize the false economy. One guy bingo's and misses the sort, how much does that cost?

I think we should fly these fuel loads as planned. When you have to divert for gas, and miss the sort... at least you saved 5k on the original FPR.

---Ohab, you beat me to it.---

Somehow I don't think the Enders report recommended we shave down our fuel reserves....

I've been shutting down # 2 at cruise when the captain wasn't watching. He usually gets ****ed when the engine winds down but the fuel savings are so high we both end up looking like heros...

Well...okay...not really---but with this climate on fuel I have to ask "what next?"

You a P-3 wannabe?

You a P-3 wannabe?
ASA had a captain (Victor Foxtrot) who was former P-3. He had to almost be physically restrained by his F/O from shutting one down on a Brasilia in a holding pattern once....

LEROY 04-29-2007 06:01 PM

you know, they normally start right back up again when ya need 'em...
But seriously, I don't think there are too many swept-wing transport aircraft that could possibly do better fuel-wise on fewer than all engines. The P-3 does. If we were haulin' freight with the Mighty Orion, we'd probably be loitering 1 AND 4!

USNFDX 04-29-2007 06:15 PM

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if we go Flag, the 30hr in 7 will apply, this may really reak havok with schedules.

Also, as far as TFM, had valve fail in flight from KIX to MEM. Didn't make any fuel.
