UPS and the AirInc. job fair.

I have been to several Air Inc fairs and have scored interviews with CX and UPS. I struck out once at the plate but I have spoken with UPS HR at a career fair and and they have said reapply and try again. Never quit!

When I was looking for a job 6 or 7 years ago, I attended 7 AirInc Conf before I got hired at a Major... Of the 7 AirInc Conferences, I scored interviews at DAL, AA, TWA, NWA, and UPS. Heck, Most the "major" recruiters (including Phil D.) knew me by name after my first 3 or 4 visits.
Ultimately, I got rejected by two and hired at the other three... Had a choice to make and took the one that I thought would provide the best long career for me... So far it worked out...
Yes, going to the conferences is expensive, but it gives you valuable face time that could land you a job. WIA and OBAP are also great avenues to get the face time, I personally never did them, I only did AirInc... IMO, going to these conferenses will get you one step closer but you also need to do some serious networking...
Good luck

Thanks everyone for responding to my first post. I'll definately be going to Atlanta this weekend! It's encouraging to hear how many have gotten interviews from attending a job fair.
As I said in my original post, I'm going to Atlanta to talk with UPS only. I honestly hadn't thought of standing in line more than once, that's a great idea. I'm now planning to talk with any UPS representative who will listen. Thanks for the advice.
I've got a question for those who might have worked for UPS before. When I filled out my '06 application, the system recognized my SS# as a previous employee, and I was unable to fill out the app. for a week or so. I've read on other posts that UPS doesn't really care about your prior experience with the company. I'm wondering why the system makes previous employees wait to fill out the application. Obviously, I'm hoping that having a good employment record with UPS is in some way helpful.
Also, I know that as of May 10, the application window is closed. Has anyone heard any rumors of when or if the window might open again this year?
Thanks again.

Bosco, from others on here, working for UPS in the past does matter. Mostly it seems that it could hurt you if your previous departure didn't go well. Evidently when you leave your boss has to check a box to either hire or not hire in the future. You get the idea.
I hope the job fair treats you well and you join the brown clan again soon.

Why UPS only? I wouldn’t! You won’t score any extra points by saying "I came here just to see you." You’re paying lots of money to be there so you should talk to other airlines too. Trust me, the recruiters expect you to apply everywhere – if not you might even be perceived as slightly presumptuous -why apply elsewhere? I'm going to UPS!
Get the most out of this conference – maybe you can get an interview at an airline which can lead you to UPS? (current in heavies with international experience?)

Really? Everything I’ve heard makes me believe they do care about your past employment. Buddy of mine (we were in the same class) used to throw boxes for several years, he thinks it was the reason he got the job.

The point is they are looking for people that are excited to work for UPS, not excited to work for UPS because they called first.

I couldn't dissagree more. I never had any intent on applying elsewhere. I made it my career goal to get to UPS. In fact, when I showed up for my interview I couldn't get the smile off my face for the whole 4 hours I was there. I told Buz that I had no intention of applying elsewhere and that if I wasn't hired that my plan B was to reapply at UPS. I received two responses to my steadfastedness to work for UPS, "I wish everyone was as enthusiastic about working for UPS", and a welcome to UPS letter 3 days after my interview.

We both just got lucky. Applicants are expected to have backups.

Didn't mean to sound like I'm too good to fly for another carrier. I'm just not interested in working for any of the other airlines that will be at the job fair. I know lots of people who would love to fly for Southwest, Continental, and many others. I'm sure those are great jobs with great companies.
I imagine some of them have no interest in flying packages around in the middle of the night, so maybe they're not applying with UPS.
Hope everyone gets to where they want to be.
