The advantage to a well paid workforce is that they want to keep the good times rolling and will go above and beyond to make the system work. All lost when you have multiple carriers you can whipsaw....if you don't play ball they will just give the flying to the latest carrier to jump on in. The shipping is "free" of sorts after you pay the Prime membership fee. If it's late it is just late..no refund on shipping like FDX and UPS. Happens with my Amazon stuff all the time. Forget in-house...you lose the leverage..they know that.

When they mentioned that Amazon charges $1,700 less than UPS/FEDEX per semi-truck load shipped from Oregon to Southern, California, any idea what percent that would equate to? 20 percent? 50 percent? What does FEDEX charge for something like that?

FedEx Freight volume services offers three different service options that allow you to balance your budget and delivery timeline for each shipment:
Truckload Exempt (TLX), Truckload Service (TLS), and Exclusive Use (EXCL).

SERVICE TYPE ESTIMATED RATE (USD) ESTIMATED TRANSIT TIME LIABILITY
TLX $1,049.00 3 - 6 Business days $2.00 / lb., $10,000.00 max
TLS $1,521.00 3 Business days $25.00 / lb., $100,000.00 max
EXCL $2,715.00 2 Business days $25.00 / lb., $100,000.00 max

That's for 20 skids @ 15,000 lbs 48x45x40 inches

Very true, definitely miss HSV. Gonna wait til Amazon dumps cash into BNA, not likely. EWR, blah with or without the expansion.

Amazon Air Launches Cargo Service at Nashville International Airport®

Daily service to support free shipping to Amazon customers across the region

NASHVILLE – The first Amazon Air cargo aircraft arrived at Nashville International Airport® (BNA) on Thursday evening, beginning daily flights to the airport and adding to the company’s presence in the region.

“This operation reinforces Amazon’s investment in the region and BNA’s vital role in the economic development of the area,” said Doug Kreulen, BNA president and CEO. “We value their commitment and look forward to a strong partnership.”

Through a partner lease agreement, Amazon Air will use over 39,000 square feet of space at BNA. Amazon Air’s Nashville gateway will include an onsite area to sort packages bound for their next destination and will be managed by an Amazon logistics partner, LGSTX Cargo Services. The site is expected to support more than 70 jobs.

“Growing the network of sites where Amazon Air flies is essential to supporting free shipping for our customers,” said Chris Preston, Director, Amazon Gateway Operations. “Today, with Nashville International Airport as part of our Amazon Air network, we are closer to our customers in the area and can support fast shipping for the items they rely on. We are proud of the investments Amazon has made in the Nashville region and look forward to continued growth.”

Amazon Air plays a central role in delivering Amazon products for customers by transporting items across longer distances in shorter timeframes. Amazon Air owns and leases an aircraft fleet and works with third-party carriers to provide dedicated air cargo services for Amazon packages. Since 2010, Amazon has invested nearly $13 billion in Tennessee and $530 billion in the U.S – creating more than 25,000 jobs in Tennessee in its operations, logistics, corporate and technology functions.
