LOA in order to hope to come back
 
I hear that several pilots have taken a leave of absence from the company at age 60 instead of going to the back seat or retiring. I guess they think it will make a difference being on LOA versus training as an S/O. They claim that they are still current in the left seat so once the age limit is changed, they can slide right back into the saddle. Interesting philosophy, but not very smart. If it doesn't work, I understand that their vacation buyback (when they actually retire) will be based upon s/o pay. That's, what, about a 40% loss in pay? Yikes!:eek:

If you don't get "3 in 3" you aren't current in the left seat. Once you miss a recuurent training event then you have to go thru an abbreviated requal. Once you miss a complete cycle of recurrent, you go thru the full course. I don't buy into that angle being too successful.

Not quite true. If you go overdue for landings, either you get a line check or you get another sim ride. If you miss your 6 month training, no big deal. That training is not an FAA requirement. The only requirement is the annual checkride (CLOE), and that is where you go non-current and have to go back to re-train. Personally, it doen't affect me, but these guys think they have figured it out if it passes within their 1 year training cycle.

First of all u can't just take a leave of absence...you have to be approved for one ... i talked to an upper level manager the other day and he said he knows of noone who has been approved of a leave...if u know one personally than that would be interesting...

And ... if it doesn't work they will sit at home collecting $0.00/month when they could have been drawing their relatively large retirement check. What will that have cost them? Doesn't sound very smart to me but then neither does this whole "65" thing.

After missing your CMV1 you need to get the short REQUAL course, 5 days of training.

After missing your CMV2 you need ot get the short REQUAL course as well.

It's after missimg 2 years that you have to go thru the entire 50 day course.

So, according to what the law is written right now, it doesn't look back. LOA or not, if your 60+ a day on the day of the law being passed, your hosed bro. Unless something is added at the last minute.
