Automation in my opinion got delayed like a decade. No airline is going to invest a dollar on that for quite a few years after bleeding cash with all this going on.

like.....no. When the dust settles airline management will use this catastrophe to further crush the careers and aspirations of their unionized workers. They are opportunistic and greedy by nature and will take full advantage of the chance to push through their agenda of concessions and lay the foundation to get us out of the cockpit at the first opportunity. Scope will be attacked with the backing of the courts if necessary. British Airways just announced ALL of their employees, including the pilots must sign a new permanent zero hour contract that makes them at will employees with zero protection. Their existing contract will be cancelled. This nightmare will evolve into a scenario that management could only dream about while staring out of the window at Wharton.

Our last class, April 20, was almost all legacy pilots. They all came from the pool after trading water for several months. I fly with a fair amount of new pilots from legacies. Also more than likely your going to be a wide body for most of your career!

The day Boeing can safely and successfully design and manufacture an autonomous transport category airplane is the day my breakfast sizzle meat sprouts wings.

Doubt any pilots with a union are going to agree to signing it.

Leaving all that seniority could easily be a losing long term gamble.
I understand most of your points but not the, FedEx will be in a tough spot also, comment or hint. History shows even in tough economic times cargo is much more stable. Factor in the massive increase of online ordering since the 08 crisis and you can fairly certainly say cargo may have a dip but not near the magnitude of the pax demand. You do realize pax demand is down 95% and not predicted to come back above 30% demand for the rest of the year. The pax industry is saying 3 years to get “back to normal” and that’s not saying back to 2019 levels that’s just to match the “smaller” airlines they will be. Look at how our and the worlds economies now lean on deliveries and cargo. If I was him I would kiss the 5 years good bye and he will more than make it up at FedEx. Ask me how I know.

I would expect FedEx to consider each candidate from a legacy based on their unique situation and potential motives for seeking a pilot position. No one being hired right now took the actions necessary to get the job because of Covid. It’s very possible that FedEx will view those who were planning to leave during good times last year very differently from someone who suddenly gains interest in the aftermath of Covid.

Thats good to hear. If I could take my seniority with me, I’d want to go over too. Passengers are overrated, but daytime is nice.

I hope they screen applicants just like you referenced. If your at a “Major” and your app wasn't updated and current prior to February 1st then you should go to the back of the stack. A great interview question: If you were not interested prior to February 1st then why are you now?
