Jolly,
The majority of our pilots said we wanted ALPA to be part of the process if the change was inevitable.

Jolly,
The majority of our pilots said we wanted ALPA to be part of the process if the change was inevitable.
" ... the FedEx portion of the polling done by ALPA national. In that polling, just released to the Executive Board, the results indicated that 62 percent of FedEx pilots believed that, if the change to age 60 is imminent, ALPA should change its position to be able to take part in the political process so that we can defend our interests."
Did you want our MEC to blow off that majority?.
DW and the Comm chair need to get on the same page. Or is it easier to tell lies via message line? And not so easy to tell a roomful of pilots angry at you that more than half of them really want age 60 rule to change?

We cannot change this move by the MEC now. And the feelings of anger and betrayal are strong and may be well placed. What we can do now is tell the MEC Unequivocally what we want now. As posted on another thread: "The big rallying cry after "it's inevitable, get onboard if you want to influence the change" was; "we must protect seniority at all costs", this translated into protecting the 250 or so who want to come back. My question is, what about protecting the seniority of the 4500+ below them? And all the rest who will come after? The watershed of this decision is enormous. If your going to go in for protecting seniority why not protect the most you can instead of a "Special Interest Group"?"

I had my rant in this thread earlier but I will add this. I think that it's incredibly short sighted to quit the union over this or pretty much any single issue. You take yourself totally out of the credibility picture when you do something like that. Think the color "lavender". I'd much rather have the credibility of full membership when I pi$$ and moan than not have it. I would fully expect that my LEC would politely listen and then flush anything that I might say as a non-member.
DON'T LET THE COMPANY TAKE THIS AND SHOVE IT UP OUR COLLECTIVE POSTERIORS!

Keep it in prospective
Whatever losses you believe this change will bring to us, it will pale in comparison to the losses we'll face in the future if, Our Union is in disarray over this.

Gee...I didn't realize that the FedEx pilots were part of ALPA, at that time.
That was around the same time that our buddy, "Fred", used to come down and hang out with his boys, wasn't it?
Funny how things change, eh?
"ALPA national" was fighting the first stages of deregulation, at that time. It all started with deregulating air freight. Just like cabotage is going to. I'm very aware of what you were referring to. And, I think you would be hard pressed to find an ALPA member from that era, that didn't want them to fight that battle.
That is why your statement is stupid. Of course, ALPA national fought against FedEx getting large airplanes. They were trying to protect their members. Do you think there was a group within ALPA, that was going to get hosed by not allowing FedEx to fly big airplanes? DUH!!!
