Tour of SDF facillity

I have a 34 hr SDF overnight tonight. My first officer and I would love to check out the UPS facilities, is there any way we might be able to grab a tour?

If you are eligible to jumpseat, you can "tour" the ready room and see a bunch of old, tired pilots drinking coffee.

In general, nobody (not even UPS pilots) can tour the sort facilities. They don't trust us, apparently.

As of 3 years ago they were giving new hire pilots a bare bones tour of the sort facility.

My understanding is that due to Covid not even our new hires are getting a sort tour. There is a NatGeo special about the sort on YouTube you could watch in your hotel room.:D

Yes, in CASS. We are more interested in seeing how things go on the pilot side than the sorting side. Maybe go out to an A/C during preflight and see how the operation works then head out before pushback. Think a crew would be game to let us check that out?

I don’t think many crews would mind. Most of our folks enjoy showing what we do. I don’t know off the top of my head if you would be able to make it through security at Edgewood without being listed for a jump seat. Anyone else more familiar with those rules?

Can’t enter facilities if you’re not jump seating or on special invite (escorted) by higher-ups at the company. Probably not the smartest idea to list for a JS you don’t intend to take either. IMHO, nothing interesting watching our preflight - we get a van ride to the plane then FO is busy, Captain does a walk around, logbook, then plays on iPhone. Freighters aren’t as clean as pax haulers on the inside.

This guy (Atlas Cpt “askcaptscott”) has a few good videos from the cargo perspective. Linked one is a N pacific crossing. Only inaccuracy was no one changing into their cruise clothes. Gives you an idea anyway...

Otherwise, YouTube search ‘world port ups’ - tons of relevant clips.
