Tour of SDF facillity
I have a 34 hr SDF overnight tonight. My first officer and I would love to check out the UPS facilities, is there any way we might be able to grab a tour?

In general, nobody (not even UPS pilots) can tour the sort facilities. They don't trust us, apparently. |
As of 3 years ago they were giving new hire pilots a bare bones tour of the sort facility.

Yes, in CASS. We are more interested in seeing how things go on the pilot side than the sorting side. Maybe go out to an A/C during preflight and see how the operation works then head out before pushback. Think a crew would be game to let us check that out?

Can’t enter facilities if you’re not jump seating or on special invite (escorted) by higher-ups at the company. Probably not the smartest idea to list for a JS you don’t intend to take either. IMHO, nothing interesting watching our preflight - we get a van ride to the plane then FO is busy, Captain does a walk around, logbook, then plays on iPhone. Freighters aren’t as clean as pax haulers on the inside.
This guy (Atlas Cpt “askcaptscott”) has a few good videos from the cargo perspective. Linked one is a N pacific crossing. Only inaccuracy was no one changing into their cruise clothes. Gives you an idea anyway... https://youtu.be/uKGFUvwE8YQ Otherwise, YouTube search ‘world port ups’ - tons of relevant clips. |
