AirNet Questions

What types of avionics are generally used by cargo carriers with light twins (specifically AirNet)? Also, does anyone know which bases tend to be more junior in the AirNet network?

I used to fly there years ago and the avionics were minimal and primative at best. Does it really matter to you what kind of avionics they have? Is that a deciding factor in possibly accepting a job with them? When I was there, east coast bases, especially TEB, went junior. So you could expect as a newhire to be flying a twin with minimal avionics ( two nav-coms, and a transponder ) up and down the east coast corridor all night long trying to stay VFR so you can still make your delivery deadlines, all the while staying out of controlled and restricted airspace with your minimal avionics. It will make you a great seat of the pants, dead reckoning pilot who will soon realize that you don't really need all that fancy gear to navigate with.

sounds like fun...

Really? Can you bring a GPS unit with you to assist? If you pay for it yourself? Not being flip...It does sound like good experience to fly like that...

What are some of the distances and are you always flying w/ min wait times?

By now i'm sure some of the planes have a GPS of some sort. You could bring your own if you wanted. One of the runs I flew went LUK-IND-LUK-AGC-CMH-BKL-IND-MDW-LUK.

Browntail,

I see you went to BKL. I flew into there for 4+ years in a Lear. Many, many hairy nights!!!! Doing the ILS 24R circle to 6L in the dead of winter with those winds is an app I will never forget.

As for flying for Airnet. Who gives about the avionics, the flying is GREAT. Learn more about WX then you can do in a book or a whatever.

Thanks to everyone for the replies. No, the avionics will probably not affect my decision at all, I am just curious.

Hey all,

Airnet is a fairly new listing fo us, if you are familar with the company, could you click the link above and double-check our work? If you see changes that need to be made, please use the update link at the bottom of the page.

Thanks!

The info on the link is pretty good. AirNet is a place where changes comes fast! For the better and worse!

I pretty sure most of our props have GPS's now.

The east coast is not a very popular place it seems, I went there and liked it. Expensive though. I wouldn't get your hopes up for a particular place, because there is a good chance you won't get it! However you can bid out that and go where you would like later
