Kalitta Pilots CBA update
#111
serious question: how many times in the last couple of years has there been an opportunity for FO to FO bidding other than the initial 777 stand up. The 74 spots have almost always (this latest vacancy being the exception) been filled by new hires and lately the 777 FO slots the same, leaving the only way for an FO to escape the 767 being via upgrade.
All 777 FO positions were but out for bid - the CBA demands it
so any 747 or 767 FO who was not seat locked could and was awarded 777 if they chose to bid it
The same applies to 747 FO positions - the Company must post a bid for each position
positions not awarded (because no eligible bidder bid) are filled with new hires
that has been the case for a while now on both the 777 and 747
The reason the Company posted 40 more 747 FO bids is that they filled the quota from the last bid with new hires
So - if anyone is not bid locked and wants to be a 747 FO - now is the time to do it

I will be a no vote on this offer.
Without getting into a lengthy discussion as to why, I will say that given everything I have heard our guys complain about over the last three years, this contract does nothing to address any of our issues. This alone is enough to say no, but if it is true we have hired an outside vendor to build our lines, rest assured you will almost never break guarantee. Keep this in mind when you consider your vote.

Also, efficient lines isn’t going to bring the average month below guarantee. An optimizer can get rid of 20 hours of criss-crossing deadheads, but we don’t have that. When everyone is flying 80-100 block on the 74 every month, you can’t just shuffle that around and reduce it below guarantee. Now, hiring 40 new pilots, that will reduce average lines.

Hopefully, the hiring is for growth. DO said that’s they were actively looking for 747’s and they want us to be “ahead of the curve” for hiring for possible new planes if they are to buy any. He didn’t mention it, but hopefully they’re trying to win some more of the 777’s from the recent DHL order.
It’s gotta be more cost effective to pay one guy 90 hrs vs two guys at 64 hrs.
Again, vote how you want, but the company has ZERO reason to offer us anything right now. The pilots have very little leverage. Hopefully, 4 years down the road when the contract is amendable, the hiring boom is happening and we can increase pay and/or DC.
I look at this as a positive for at least getting DC in the contract.
To each their own. Just vote!

I’d be all for the good news/bad news, but we haven’t heard that anything else is around the corner.
Got a feeling that if there was some silver lining to be had, QoL, duty days, domestic first, rig, ...we would have at least heard “more news pending” by now.
