Yes carriers do close their doors and leave. The 777 DHL carrier in Europe whose name escapes me is an example. My information comes directly from a DHL VP who rode back with us to CVG one day. He was the one who explained the analysis to me and said that they pick a carrier that will be late waiting for freight. They fuel extra on that aircraft and fly high speed. He told me that KalittaAir was the most cooperative airline to work with on this strategy.
This conversation was about 3 or 4 years ago. Who knows maybe all of the carriers are doing that now. Couple of other things he said that was of interest. He was very proud of the fact, that at that time, due to Southern’s route structure, you could send an overnight package around the world out of LA 6 hours later than any other carrier. He said that he sought out K4 BCF aircraft to ride back and forth on because he loved the extra room and the crews seemed happy. He also mentioned when asked that DHL has no plans to ever do domestic service in the US. He said that it was kind of ironic that they cannot compete domestically in the US given the origin of the company.

He lied to you. Nobody leaves until DHL gets the plane loaded. How do you just leave? Doors open no push back.....just start the engines suck some ground people up and push the throttles up and taxi with all the doors open. ABX has been leaving when DHL tells us for the 17yrs I have been flying their freight. As far as flying domestic freight in the US..they tried that. That was the whole reason they bought Airborne Express if you remember. They became the #3 express carrier in the US overnight. They made such a mess of it they completely destroyed what Airborne spent 40 yrs building because they had no idea what Express overnight freight delivery was. He was stroking you, and it sounds like you bought it.
I hope this clears it up for you. If not we will just have to disagree. I am retired now. Heading out on the boat in a few minutes. Loving the Florida life! No taxes, cost of living low, and relaxing lifestyle. I saved 19k in taxes the first year I moved here from Pittsburgh. Folks, there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Did you actually read what I wrote. The ABX debacle was exactly what he said. If you were in Leipzig you would see for yourself that 20 minutes before departure the European carrier crews notify ground that they are closing up and leaving. I have heard and seen it many times. How any time have you had extra fuel put on flown high speed to an international destination? If you haven’t then you did not “wait for freight”. Your freight was just late and that is a delay on them.

Some reason you are so bitter? Do you really think flying your light twin for DHL is giving you the full experience of everything freight? I think maybe you need a nap. Back to the boat I go. You can have the last word because you clearly need to.

Why do you find it necessary to be such a jerk. Clearly you and I have our experience in the DHL system. Regarding our conversation, he has been with DHL for many years. He didn’t think, nor did I require an explanation about the origins of the company and their many missteps.

Glad to hear your living the good-life in a location many appreciate providing it’s the right one. You saved far more than 19K in taxes, don’t ever forget how PA screwed you if you were a resident and contributed to a 401K... Totally dumbfounded that any state did this and how many folks stayed for decades contributing to their 401K. Welcome to one of the smarter states at least regarding taxation.
“Pennsylvania is one of the few states that does not follow the federal rules on 401(k) contributions. PA does NOT exclude 401(k) contributions from a taxpayers income - thus, making contributions taxable.”
Fully Retired, PA is actually one of the most friendly retiree states with almost no taxes when not working, but still a political xxxx show. Sail away, come sail away....

So a contract carrier....working within the DHL system....is going to tell the loaders to cease and desist....close up the aircraft.....call the company for a new TLR....have the loadmaster re-distribute the load....and massively **** off your customer which then in turn ****es off your company.....to block out on the time listed on your release? Loading delays go on DHL....not your airline. I’ve never seen it nor heard of it. I’ve worked for a couple ACMIs flying DHL stuff. Not buying it.
