To answer Tony...
Well...based on some side conversations with an Age 65 blue ribbon panel member, I am convinced DW brought the retro policy with him as his own crusade...not only WITHOUT a mandate but against the wishes of the majority of people who elected him. So--one thing I'm looking for is someone willing to pursuade/force out the current MEC chair to bring back a chance of some unity and solidarity. We got sold out for someone's personal agenda. That's wrong, and it should never happen again...period.
Tony C would be a good block 5 rep. I think he has proven he's thoughtful and cares about his coworkers. I disagree with him on the retro issue--but then again I don't see eye to eye with my wife on every issue either and I sleep with her...so take it for what its worth.
I think the next block 7 rep should be very proactive in communication with the block, and needs to represent their needs to the MEC, not just mouthpiece down the party line. Bottom line--I think the current crew rolled over too easy. I'll support anyone who is willing to fix that, while still maintaining a professional tone and demeanor. There are too many issues coming down the pike--cabatoge, open skies, and our own new management's fuel savings plans--that require us to stick together and trust each other. I don't think its a stretch to say the current situation is the trust has been shattered. The only way to get that trust back is by having some folks who have the support and trust of their peers.
I'd support Jolly. Or Huck. Or a host of other good guys...Falconjet (although he might be in the IP block).
IMHO...even though commuters don't want to be left out of important issues...the right guy for the job is close to town. He can be there at every event, hub turn meeting, etc even if he isn't on the schedule. Its easy to say "wah wah...I'm too busy...", but in fact I do run a coaching business and now a horse stable in my time off. The perfect candidate would have some of my p1ss and vinegar but better tact, a better handle on the language, and the ability to roll in and out of MEM with ease. Anyone who's try to catch me on the phone lately knows that it is hit and miss--and I really think ACCOUNTABILITY is extremely important right now. Part of that accountablity contract is being quickly available to your bros. Right now--I'd be putting you on hold too much.
Whoever that guy or gal is--they can count on my 100% support. I'd LIKE to do it--but the reality is I woudn't be the best. Trying to squeeze a bro's complaint about trip revision in between a phone prep for SWA or a vet's visit to the stable would not be easy, and I think there are some better guys than me for the job.

OK gents, this is where the rubber meets the road. For all of you who have been b!tching and moaning about how badly things were handled, and about how quickly we could/should "get rid" of Dave Webb and the block reps, here's your chance. All you need do is step up to the plate and volunteer for these thankless jobs. Jobs that take a gigantic amount of time and patience to perform. Jobs that, for the most part, go unrewarded, what with every move you make being second guessed. Undoubtedly you'll manage to p!ss someone off. After all, it's inevitable that this happens, so be prepared to defend your position to guys who are really good at playing Monday morning quarterback, but have probably never stepped on the field of play.
So for those of you predisposed to not having or ever wanting a life, or those of you who feel that you can do a far better job than the current block rep, and represent your constituents much better than the current guys have, I wish you luck in your running for block rep. Seriously, I do.
