FDX is first and I'm sure UPS will follow.

Here's the carrot!

For pilots, particularly young pilots, an overseas base can offer chances to move up the pay scale with promotions not available in larger bases. For instance, a first officer in Memphis who lacks seniority to fly in the captain's seat could be senior in a smaller domicile.

Narrowbody rates at European cost of living? There better be some sort of override.

Default Cola

Yeah, they talked about a COLA in the article. Europe's expensive...but Hong Kong is outrageous. It'll be interesting to see what they come up with...

The first thing I notice when I touch down in CDG is the exchange rate. You're losing more than a third off your dollar before you even try to spend it. Add in to that the price of everything and it will be a HUGE hit. I'm not sure a narrow body F/O would be able to support a family very easily. To even it up, it seems to me, it would take at least a 30% raise in base pay and then ensure the tax situation improved to somehow help alleviate the pain. I'm sure there are some brainiacs out there that will bid it no matter what though.

HKG based crews will have to be the highest paid in the world factoring in COLA. Can't imagine a more expensive place in the world to dump a bunch of American pilots!
