Hmmmm..... OK. If you say so. We shouldn't be offended. I guess us being "F.O.S." is part of the compliment to Tony.

I too would like to compliment Tony for stepping up. But, every dues paying member has the right to complain. Just because they don't run for office doesn't take that away. Based on what I've seen...I wouldn't want most of the guys at FDX to step up and try to fill a rep position. Having said that, there are plenty of other "grunt" positions for them to fill.

I guess a smiley doesn't give you editorial license

Bus...

I was making a facetious remark in response to the mealy mouth tone where Freight was complaining that he shouldn't be lumped into JetJock's "Slam" because he couldn't run. The point I was trying to make was that he "included himself and took offense" where it wasn't proferred towards him in particular. He sounded defensive. This was never about whether anyone has the right to bit@h or not....I'll stipulate, everyone who pays dues has a right to their opinion and bit@h as loud as they want about it.

It takes another kind of character to not only bit@h but make a change as well. Again, I congratulate TonyC for being so unselfish as to step up and put aside his personal agenda and work for all of us. That's what JetJock was saying.

And yes, it was a compliment to say and I'll paraphrase "Tony, so nice to see that you put your money where your mouth is, while there are so many people who are FOS in this world, you're obviously not one of them."

And BusBoy, freightdawgydog's post implied that the only reason he was not volunteering was that he didn't have a position to run for. So I implied, that if he was going to make that implication and thereby take legitimate offense at JJ's comments then he had better run when he was eligible, or he could rightfully include himself in the pile of those who are FOS.

I have been thinking for a while, that this place has become what the other place was....and the fact that we are arguing such a sophmoric point has convinced me to say "Ciao".

Have fun you guys and fly safe.

Thanks for steeping up Tony. I'll see you Tuesday. I hope you don't have to put up with too many conversations like this thread. But , you know you will.

Well Jakal with posts saying..

''So....sounds like as soon as there is an opening in one you are eligible to run for, then you are throwing your name in the hat? I'll expect to see it. Otherwise you will be just what JJ is implying F.O.S. and should be generally slammed against.."

and..

"I was making a facetious remark in response to the mealy mouth tone where Freight was complaining.."

to a fellow poster that has never been rude or insulting to you all I can say is good riddance. Don't let the door hit you on the way out if you can't carry on in a more civil tone that that. Still waiting to see if you want to compare the hours we have spent volunteering for the union though....

I think if this conversation were being conducted face to face with a round of cold beverages it would play out quite differently, with a lot of smiles and head nods and handshakes, and guys slappin' each other on the back. This is just an example of how hard it is to communicate accurately on the internet. What we intend to say doesn't always get said. What the Captain meant to say was . . . :)

If you pay dues, you've earned the right to express your opinion. Serving the union in other ways doesn't give you any more of a right to a voice, but it might bump up the volume a bit. At the same time, a guy that's not serving doesn't have to listen to anybody else's opinion. Someone serving is going to listen to a lot of opinions, and he won't have a volume control. ;)

fdxflyer said that he plans to serve when the kids are kids are gone. Please don't construe this comment as criticism, but rather take it as food for thought, and not just for you, but for anybody else that might have similar plans. If everyone waits until they're senior to serve, we'll have a senior MEC -- with senior priorities -- and senior biases -- that will be criticized for favoring the senior pilots. We need junior guys, too.

Like I said, it's food for thought, and not an attempt to send anybody on a guilt trip. We get out of it what we put in.

Tony, as always, the voice of reason. Sad that you are a block or so senior to me, so I can't help you out. Good Luck!

I thought that was normal. (Not wanting to work.) (Not just you.) (Everybody)

Tony, I know I can't vote, but can I take judicial notice instead? ;) The union and its members are very lucky to have you. I hope they know that. If only you could be cloned in every other airline.
