I was just considering that the company has basically offered as rental allowance, the cost of a one way DH ticket if the base was SIBA. And you will have more fly days. They can do a lot better.

Great comparison. I'll second that research.

Single Guy Considering FDA

In response to LIFTR, I would be willing to go to CDG, but would rather stay on the panel in MEM and be excessed off the panel by the over 60 gang then go under an LOA that doesn't improve my quality of life. For those of us that are willing & able to go, but have a house now, the cost of keeping that home (rather than selling into a loss in this market) & COL in CDG may be turn out to be a pay cut. The storage unit money is a start, but I probably won't be able to rent my house out for the amount of my mortgage. That is my problem, per se. Additionally, sounds like the company isn't going to just hand me $2700, but want specific receipts, and compensate me for that amount only. Given my experience to date with the auditing, I would be reluctant to have to scrap on a monthly basis over every little detail that requires the company to approve it. I have been to Paris, like it to a point, and can learn the language in a short time. I have heard getting to the Hub isn't easy from the pax terminal, and that the cabs won't make the short trip because the fare stinks. I don't know enough about buying a car over there to cost it out, but assume it would be expensive at all levels: gas, insurance, paying for a parking spot, etc. Will I have to pay $60 per month to park @CDG as I do now in my home airport? Will I be able to deviate and pay for limos or cabs, etc. How about the flying QOL. Will it be like the Bus now? I agree with the poster who said the pairings won't be 36 hour layovers. I envision two maybe three legs to the hub, a.m. turn with two to three out. 757 is French for 727 pairings. I would appreciate any input from those who can provide specifics on Cost of Living for owning a car. Relying on the Metro might not be feasible or practical, especially if it doesn't run for a 0100 show time. Willing & able to go but see this LOA as short on a specifics that make it a gamble that won't pay off. Think it is a wonderful opportunity if I am treated with the same regard that they would offer a junior manager.
Not sure that this LOA provides that, and don't have the information to make a valid QOL or COL decision.

I think this is true, and the funny part is any expenses you document over the $2700 a month will decrease the amount of tax equalization money the company will have to pay (by increasing your housing exclusion).

its a big, huge, large NO for me.

it is time to make the MEC accountable for their 11-1 vote.

i am with albie, lots of openings coming up. time for new blood. still can't believe they didn't at least get the same package as cathay pacific has. maybe its time we hire professional negotiators instead of pilots.

Here's some info to think about:

From the DOD web site:

Housing+ Utility Allowance for O-5 w/dependents in Paris: $5749.37 (4143 euro)
Cost of Living Allowance for O-5 w/dep 18 yrs service in Paris: $1928.67

Total: 7678.04 per month

Housing+ Utility Allowance for O-5 w/dep in Hong Kong: $7157.22 (56167 HD)
Cost Of Living Allowance for O-5 w/dep 18 yrs service in Hong Kong: $920.50

Total: 8077.72 per month

The Housing/Utility Allowance is based on local currency/housing market and adjusted every year, the COLA is based on local currency/buying power and adjusted semimonthy. Note that US service men pay no foriegn income taxes, have access to a commissary, bx/px/nex, US DOD run schools, and cheap gas on base. A O-5 in the US gets a housing allowance of ~$1500, dependent on local housing market. Bottom Line, just looking at Housing/Utility/COLA, an O-5 makes $6178.04/month more in Paris and $6577.72/month in Hong Kong.

And don't forget the base clinic and/or hospital. What are we supposed to do for medical and dental needs? Haven't heard or read too much about that...

Would somebody ask DW tonight if this LOA train is still in the station, pulling out, or over half way to it's destination. So I got that goin' for me.......which is good.

It's a nice LOA....for me to POOP on!

Waaaayyyyy short, IMHO.

I am sure we will be told that we should vote for it because "it's the right thing to do".
