New Ques On Fdx Loa

Have not found an answer, so I will post it here. It assumes the LOA has passed.

If someone holds 757 Capt. Paris and fulfills their time commitment, do they have to wait for the next vacancy bid to come home?

With the long time period of the bids the company is holding, it seems possible to train and then have your commitment end without a new bid to get you out of there.

You always will have to wait for a new standing bid. The time commitment means nothing. Plus, if you are junior Capt in -300 or -757 in HKG or CDG, to get back to the states you might have to bid back to F/O. No guarantee you will be able to hold Capt.

A big negative for an early upgrade folks! Who is ready to go?

Something else to think about....it could possibly apply

Section 24 Filling of Vacancies

E. Other Crew Position Award Procedures
1. Down/Lateral Bid Freezes and Restrictions
a. Down/Lateral Bid
A down/lateral bid is an award of a different crew status that is
compensated at an hourly rate less than or equal to the hourly rate for the pilot’s current crew status.
b. Down/Lateral Bid Restriction
Unless waived by the Vice President, Flight Operations, or his designee, a
pilot may not receive a permanent vacancy award based on a down/lateral bid unless he has been in his current crew status for at least 18 months.

When would this apply? F/O to CDG. After two years decide to bid Captain, received award, sent to training. 9 Months later want to bid back to the MEM. This individual would need to seek approval or wait for 18 months total.
