Trips next to R days
Long time reader first time poster....
How close to an R day can I try to fill a hole with a make-up trip? For example, If my last R day is 10 Aug, can I pick up a trip on 11 Aug? Also, does it matter what type of R day it is (A, A+, R24)? I know there is some type of buffer but I couldn't find it in the contract (truthfully I didn't look that hard).
Also, what do the R day experts think about A+? Better or worse than B reserve?
Thanks for your inputs!

Better or worse depends on what you want.
A+ having a beer with dinner not an issue. But, you are available for the X-pairing morning DH to get you somewhere as well as the afternoon launch.
B reserve- harder to drink, but more than likely will only be used for the afternoon launch (unless the company brings back the 15 min early reports there are very few trips in the AM launch that have a show time in the B reserve report window).
FWIW- I don't think either of them are being used that much thanks to the new open time windows available in the contract now. But, I would venture a guess that B reserve is more senior than A+.

Depends on the "R" Day
For example, if you have A Reserve that ends on the 10th at 1200, you CANNOT pick up a trip that begins on the 10th with a PM show. You could pick up a trip that begins on the 11th with an AM launch.
The rationale for this is if you are assigned a "hub turn" on your last day of reserve, say the 10th with an am launch, you would be returning at approximately midnight on the 10th. (This used to be common, but since we are over-manned in most seats, not seen very often).
As for B Reserve, you end at mid-night, but cannot pick up a trip for an AM launch, you need to wait until the next day for a PM launch.
I presume the same is true for the "+" reserve, with the buffer.
Hope this helps.

I have been on Reserve for the last 2+ years (usually RB). I have been unable to do m/u, vol, or dft on ANY day adjacent to an R day ... doesn't seem to matter how many hours before or after the R day?
VIPS won't even take the request. I wish it wasn't that way.

Thanks for the quick replies. I should have been more specific.
If my last day of A+ is 10 Aug then can I pick up a PM trip on 11 Aug?
My A+ period ends on 10 Aug at 1930L. 12 hours later is 0730L on 11 Aug so I'm legal for a PM launch, unless... I get used on my last day. The contract says something like a reserve pilot will not be given an assignment that terminates more than 2 hours into his day off.
When does the day off begin? Probably not at 1930L. Probably at 0001 or even 0130L on the 11th. So 2 hours later is 0200 or 0330L. Does that mean I can't pick anything up that has a showtime earlier than 1400 or 1530L on the 11th? 1400L is possible, but 1530L showtime is a little late for a PM launch.
I'd love a definitive answer, but appreciate any opinions...

Mark,
This isn't always true. I have put in for makeup trips the AM following an RA period and have gotten trips. Sometimes they approve them, sometimes not.
For example, let's say you have your RA ending on the 13th. You can request trips for AM on the 14th, and it is hit or miss if it goes through. I have done this a few times lately and have been approved. Of course, if you can find a PM trip on the 14th, it is a no brainer. And, by the way, I am not talking about picking up disp trips (just to get that straight).
