I'm lost here. From what I got from the union statements is that they will pursue it, they just need to get some stuff taken care of. How is seniority integration a dead issue now?

Am I lacking sleep or something?

We’re just speculating that’s all. I do agree with you that the union will pursue with this but I do not think it’ll happen anytime soon. I base it on this part of their statement:

“…Having said that, the EB believes work has to be done before taking additional steps. Over 400 of our members indicated their opposition and over 500 did not participate in response to one critical question. On such an important issue, we believe we can do better. One key may be in education. In the future, we will develop FAQ’s and other educational materials aimed at providing more in depth explanations of the issues involved. At an appropriate time, a follow-up poll may be conducted…”

- If they’re planning on pursuing this issue then why do we need a follow-up poll?

Initially the union made it clear that they wanted at least 80% YES votes in order to pursue the issue:

“…The EB has decided that our target for proceeding down this path will involve a minimum of 80% of the active membership (non-probationary) participating in the poll and a minimum of 80% of those participating to answer “YES” to three questions”

They said minimum 80% of active membership (those voting) which would be much easier than 80% of all members. Many times when voters don’t see a clear choice they really like they tend not to vote. Clearly, many members were very conflicted here and chose not to vote.
Yet even though they are only looking at the “active” membership one question still failed the threshold of 80% (even though 79% seems close enough to me).

Furthermore, as “brown tale” pointed out, if you look into the total membership numbers and not just the ones who voted (I know that’s not the method the union is using, but it’s interesting to compare) the goal of 80% support is even further away.

Question:
1) YES – 87.7% of those who voted, or - 70.5% of all eligible voters,
2) YES – 79.0% of those who voted, or - 63.5% of all eligible voters,
3) YES – 84.7% of those who voted, or - 68.1% of all eligible voters

>80%
<80%

I didn’t double check the math; I am using “brown tale’s” numbers.

So in a nutshell I don’t think it’s a dead issue at all. I just think some CPR and even a defibrillator might be needed to resuscitate the patient.

I hope I’m wrong and I hope y’all can tell me why?
