It has been 3 on and 1 one off since before I have been here.

You will generally get depending on where you are based, whether you are assigned a run or are a floater, 3 days off per weekend. BUT Travel, if you don't live where you are sent for the week, comes out of your days off. SO, in essence, 1 day off per weekend. That is FAR 121 supplemental minimum... 24 hours off in 7 days. Having said that there are problems in crew scheduling sometimes not giving you that 24 off. BEWARE! I feel it is an honest mistake on their parts as they are inexperienced and under the gun (no one in upper level management has been at MAC more than 2 years except the Chief Pilot).

The pilot shortage that we all hoped for HAS greatly improved the pay situation at MAC, but QOL has gone to h***. Pilots were given another raise weighted this time to the senior end of the pay scale, (previous have favored new hires in order to attract new pilots) FO's were ignored, 208 captains got something but I am not up on that. Currently we have generous incentives to work your week off and some do. But many don't as spouses don't want to see there partners gone ALL the time.

MAC used to be a wonderful place to work, but lately it seems not so much. Very sad for those of us who remember the old days. (SS, MS, and TH days)
Stupid question....but the 3 weeks on/1 week off schedule offers 1 continuous week off in a row? So during the 3 weeks of duty, pilots fly 4 days on/3 days off with options for working extra days?

All schedules are in week blocks, regardless of how many days of work or travel are required. EG: Last week I traveled to a base on Sunday. The run operates from Tues night through Fri morning, then I traveled home Friday. This week I traveled to a different base, schedule is Tuesday morning (01:00 local show) until Friday morning. Some runs are Monday night through Saturday morning. Some times you get reserve, then you are on the hook for Monday AM through Friday PM or Monday PM through Saturday AM. Your week off (PTO or Paid Time Off) begins whenever you are released at the end of the week, until you have to report or travel for the week following your PTO. (or vacation as the case may be) Living where your airplane is can be advantageous as there is less travel time. You can volunteer to work your week off as the company needs, then you get double pay. At present, there is an incentive bonus to work your week off, I think its $1000. That is in addition to the normal double pay. If no one volunteers, (yes this happens) you can get Junior Manned. Though I am not certain how they are coming up with who is "Junior" as I have seen people way senior being "Junior Manned" while others way junior were sitting at home.

Hope this helps...

Maybe you can help provide some guidance for us FedEx-hopefuls...

Is Mountain Air Cargo (MAC) or Empire Airlines the best route to FedEx?
-or-
Would a regional job be the better option?

Ultimately, whichever is going to provide you with 1000 TPIC, so in an industry where seniority is everything a 1 or 2 year difference between start dates means missing out on a substantial chunk of change...

If you were in our shoes today (single, no kids, willing to relocate) which route would you personally take?

All feedback is helpful! Thanks in advance

Regional x 1000%. Better pay, better quality of life, faster accumulation of flight time, and most importantly, a union and a contract.

What’s this I hear that Fed Ex is purchasing some 45+ ATR72-600 direct from the factory cargo aircraft, of which none are bound for MAC. Further, I heard that IFL May have been invited to join the Fed Ex Feeder network too. Is this the start of the downward spiral for MAC? Too bad... great bunch of people there.

New ATRs I’m sure will be going to Europe, haven’t heard about the other but not surprising considering neither Empire or MAC can hold on to the pilots they already have or attract new ones that stay.

They sent out a “survey” wanting to know what the pilots thought about the “purple runway” farce.

I think they were shocked by the results.

Not at MAC, but get thru a couple of their bases when the crews are present. This week the floater crew staffing the mid-west base was in a grumpy mood and informed me that FedEx was pulling Caribbean routes from MAC very soon due to “poor performance.” These guys were floating to a base which has had openings for crew for over a year despite huge pay incentives. Made me wonder where the staffing issues end, and if they don’t end then how FedEx might react.
