Default Anyone live on Mud Island?

My wife and I (two pugs, one baby) are looking to rent a 3br house and love the look and feel of Mud Island but not sure where do you would go for groceries, Target and athletic club? I know of Cordelias for groceries but that's seems only good for quick stuff. Also the neighborhood to drive thru to get to I-40/240 and I-55 seem little scary. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Dont live there but most people have to head over the bridge to West Memphis for groceries, etc. WARNING: Tank top, few teeth, tattoo's and tobacco required. I dont know about Target over there but I'm almost positive there has to be a WalMart around with fine clientelle. Closest athletic club I can think of is YMCA in downtown.

Good luck with that......ya hear

Mud Island is a nice place to live. I used to live downtown and know of many pilots single and with families that live on the island. Everybody that lives there loves it. Groceries take a little effort but it seems worth it. The downtown Y is nice and I think there are some other options but not sure. THe big park down by the river is nice for jogging and family picnics. Crime on the island is not any worse than any other place in memphis. If you want send me a message and I can give you some names of guys to call that actually live down on the island.

I is a pretty nice little community that is composed of generally (mostly) younger singles/couples.

Don't know how old your baby is, but you will definitely be committing yourself to a Private School situation if Mud Island is your long term plan.
Of course you will be doing that just about anywhere where in Memphis, unless you Head to East Germantown/Collierville, Lakeland etc.

I looked at purchasing a place there--partly because Dewitt Spain airport is within biking distance. What scared me away weren't the prices there, but the taxes. A 250-350k place might cost X dollars in some towns, but with MEM taxes the payments get even higher. That aside--lots of curb appeal there.

I wondered as well about groceries, Walmarts, etc...never even thought about West Memphis. Anyone commute from West Memphis regularly?

I liked it, but you gotta drive thru the DMZ to get back and forth to work. It is mostly single people and there's no place close to shop for food (that's not in the DMZ). Now I have a place in midtown. There's a lot to do there, you get a lot for you money, and you go straight down airways to work (about 15 minutes to the airport).

Kids and Schools are a personal choice anyway, and since BC spends $15k/yr, we must!

Default Mudd in your eye

I crash there. I like it just fine, but the mosquitos are unbelieveable @ night. No kidding, there is a giant bog just to the SE. Look for it when landing 18L/C. Pretty sure it is the source of the problem. Very quiet neighborhoods but as mentioned no groceries. Ms Cordelia's is nice for small things, but you pay for the convenience. Nearest supermarket is "Urban Decay" Kroger on Poplar & Cleveland, unless you go to W Memphis. If Kroger has an IG then they need to do a snap inspection soon!

23 minutes from Mudd to Dem lot at normal highway speeds, no major pileups. Your results may vary. . . Quite a few home listings & they are still building out new homes. New condo development is about halfway. Would be a good investment as the "island" will be pretty well built out with no more room for much else. Mudd is just close enough to downtown to be convenient but seems to have a moat mentality with respect to the downside risk. Downtown MEM is in various stages of renaissance. Local politics are entertaining if nothing else. Hope it helps . . .
