AGE 60 and Retirement

I've solved the age 60 retirement/next contract negotiations dilemna.

We offer that if we can continue to retire at age 60 with no penalties...We'll agree that no one past the age of 60 will earn any increased retirement benefits.

Work past 60? You get age 60 retirement benefits whenever you retire. With, no penalty.

Yah, I like that.

Next...

I bet you will have a full retirement by 60.

I think you better start with age 55 being normal retirement age. The Company will obviously want 65. Maybe we can 'negotiate' to 60.

R-i-g-h-t.

Might be easier to try to increase the 25 years of service to 30, with increased pension - assuming it will still be part of the contract in the future.

For now...And, I'd like to keep it that way, too.

I know, that's very selfish of me.

Alternate Retirement Formula

I am very concerned about losing the option of retiring at age 60 without an "early retirement penalty"....it is definitely one of the "unintended consequences" in the age 60 debate that could weaken everyone at FEDEX, or other carriers who are still have an A fund.

There are methods though that could protect both those who were hired "very young" from having to work well in excess of 25 yrs to get a full retirement, and at the same time allow those who were hired "late in life" to work beyond age 60 and increase their benefits.

One such formula would be full retirement benefits (i.e. "no early retirement penalty) for those who's "age" + "years worked at FDX" = 80

This would yield the following requirements:

Hired at 30 - work until 55....55 + 25 = 80
Hired at 32 - work until 56....56 + 24 = 80
Hired at 34 - work until 57....57 + 23 = 80
Hired at 36 - work until 58....58 + 22 = 80
Hired at 38 - work until 59....59 + 21 = 80
Hired at 40 - work until 60....60 + 20 = 80
Hired at 42 - work until 61....61 + 19 = 80
Hired at 44 - work until 62....62 + 18 = 80
Hired at 46 - work until 63....63 + 17 = 80
Hired at 48 - work until 64....64 + 16 = 80
Hired at 50 - work until 65....65 + 15 = 80

To protect the lucky few who get hired under age 30, you could institue a "side rule" stating anyone working for 30 yrs would get full benefits regardless of their age.

There's always middle ground out there --- just gotta put our brains together and find it!;)

OK.. I am finally on board with this Age 65 thing.. After long thought, it makes sense.. Fly till you die is a good thing.. You die earlier than if you retired at 60 which saves the company lots of dollars which makes us more profitable and in turn gives us more negotiating capital.. So we should be getting huge pay raises next contract???

No, no, no. The whole idea is not to increase the benefits if you work past 60...But, to make it less lucrative to continue working.

With the plan I'm touting. We kill 2 birds with one stone. We can all still retire at age 60 and less people will want to continue working past age 60. As, they wouldn't be gaining any more retirement benefits. I say we have a poll, on it.

At least, that's the way it should be until I retire at age 60. Then, you can all do whatever you want. Maybe, the retired military guys could work at Fedex for 25...Then, work for another retirement at UPS until they're age 90, or so.

All you regular posters, you know who you are, are all going to die before 60 so wtf does it matter. Maybe you should spend more time WORKING OUT and less time on the computer. I've seen most of you around the hub, its a wonder that you don't have a heart attack walking up the stairs to the jet. Maybe what FDX needs is a PFT. You make me sick, your muffin tops hanging over as sit pounding away on the computer with your BS about Sh!t that you or ALPA, can't control. Go stand in the mirror naked and ask yourself DOES IT REALLY MATTER??? I'M DEAD ALREADY! RIP. You sad sacks.... JJ excluded
