Yea, I don't think that it is the show stopper that it used to be. If you have their "super qualifications" I don't think that they care who you hang around with, even if it is FedEx guys <G>

Then, if your FE written is more than 2 yrs old, and you put that date on the app, will you be ok (i.e. "active"), or will your app go to "on file" ??

Since the mins say that your FE written must be within 2 yrs, I would assume that the computer would kick you to "on file".

Anybody try this? i.e. apply with an old FE written, and not get put "on file" ??

I put my application in two weeks ago, but my recommendation was sent in this week. Does that matter? When do they score your application, right when it comes in? Also, I understand that if I don't get called before January I should reapply, is that correct? Does my buddy at UPS also need to resend the recommendation? Maybe someone else has already found the answers to these questions.

Your recommendation remains on file forever. Everything else must be done again each year. Ughhhhhhh

Like Freightpuppy stated, but, IF you end up claiming to know a UPS pilot in your interview, I would suggest you have a letter of recommendation in the computer from that pilot. If said pilot won't even bother to write one for you, it speaks volumes to HR and it's not a good story. Learned that one the hard way with a bud. Had been told in the past that the LOR was really helpful to get the interview (pre-automation stupid ATL system). Since friend had got interview, many of us didn't feel necessary to write. We were wrong. They grilled him in the interview after he said he knew several of us. I asked HR afterwards since the new system was obviously changing the process. They said very important in interview now. Ouch

I added info on "active" vs. "on file" to my original post.

I don't want to sound like sour grapes, Freight Dog, but I wonder about the company answer on active versus on-file. I interviewed last Sep and didn't get selected. Fine. But when I applied again this year my same quals merit only "on file" status? I'm pretty confused...

My quals:

6500 TT, 4500 PIC all turbine time, most of it in heavy intl jets and lots of overwater time (C-17, C-141, A-300), FE ticket (B-727 panel guy)

All the squares were filled on the app--I'm wondering where I am now lacking in competitiveness other than not being successful last year in my interview...

C17,

There is a chance you aren't in "Active" mode because of your just having interviewed unsuccessfully the year before. I would bet that UPS's computers check to see if that's the case.

Those who don't get through a UPS interview successfully seem to have a hard time getting a second chance.... I agree, your times look very competitive. Wish I had a better opinion on your situation.

Thanks for the straight answer Freight Dog...I agree. I've never heard of a RECENT person getting another shot at UPS. Putting us in the on-file back burner is a convenient way of saying "move on." That's fine, I'm basically over it and have moved on...

I'm curious what is considered competitive enough to grab the elusive "active" status. My times aren't the highest - 3500 total, 2000 pic - all heavy, 95% international - but should be exactly what UPS is looking for.

A bud in my squadron applied last January, he has close to 8000 total, and 6500 pic. Yet he has always been "on-file" and has never progressed beyond that status.

Anyone know the hours UPS is targeting when selecting candidates?
