UPS at Washington Air Inc

I just got back from the Air Inc conference. This is the latest from HR.

As of Sep 17, 2007, 185 pilots have been hired.

Competitive times were 5002 total; 2942 PIC, 2021 ME Turboprop PIC; 1527 Jet. (That was in the slideshow).

Per my interview with the HR team, they are expecting to continue to interview and hire through next year (even through the holiday rush -- Nov and Dec). The forecast is a minimum of 180 pilots for 2008.

I don't know, if you put "eskimopilot" on your resume they might give you a waiver for the ANC domicile...:D

Good luck to you, and thanks for the Fatty update! ;)

I even tried emailing a picture of my kids in a igloo we built in the front yard - didn't seem to help :) We live in NH.

Just to add a little to what Fatty said, as I was there yesterday as well...people on here have asked about the "internal recommendation", the Capt. I spoke with said that needs to be done ASAP, not after the interview as has been previously mentioned here...nothing new, but he also said, "heavy intl. experience will put you towards the front of the line (no guarantees, of course)". Also, they were one of the only companies that would not take your resume, they would look at it but not take it, everyone else there took my resume...the UPS, Delta, and Continental lines were the longest (I know, big surprise...)

Once again, this sucks...I guess they aren't persuing many AD guys. I don't know of many guys with that kind of time. Oh well, guess I'll have to look elsewhere for employment.

GnH,

I would encourage you to NOT be discouraged w/ the quoted averages. IF you are a military heavy IP or better w/ the mins (I had 4k total) and all the old boxes checked for being worldwide experienced- don't give up hope at all. The rec's are one of your 8 points, so yes, they are pretty crucial, one is as good as 4 or five, I've read.

Mil expereinced pilots will usually have many fewer hours than those w/ civilian backgrounds, IMHO- remember how many hours you would be available to log if mil pilots just flew the line!

gasnhaul 09-23-2007 08:42 AM

Moose,

I would normally agree, however look at the new system. I don't think the computer could care less how you got your hours. Whether you're mil or civilian, all the computer is looking at is the number of hours you have. A human doesn't even see your resume until step 3 of the process. For the numbers they are hiring, I'm sure there are plently of civs w/ heavy, intl time and the number of hours required.

I was a KC-135 IP/EP before crossflowing to the Herc. Unfortunately I only accumulated about 3K hours for various reasons. If the mins are 5K, I'm not too hopeful at this point. No telling tho, guess we'll see what happens...

They still are hiring AD folks, Viper drivers, etc. "Competitive" and "average" can be very misleading. Example,
If you hear the average new hire was 35, and you are 35, you are thinking Perfect! But if one looked at each new hire and found that half were 30, and the other half was 40, now what would you think? The average is very skewed. I know simplified, but the lesson is: Always apply. At UPS, one of the strengths is that HR likes all backgrounds. I mean all. It really makes for some great capability in the ranks. Temporarily UPS is meeting a very specific need and are favoring heavy, oceanic experinced folks, but that is a temporary element, not a permanent one. Best of fortune in your search.
