Attached, please find Posting 07-03 dated October 5, 2007. This posting
provides for the opening of a 757 domicile in Memphis, a 757 FDA in Paris,
an Airbus FDA in Hong Kong and the closing of the Subic Bay Airbus FDA.
Additionally, we are expanding the LAX MD11 domicile by 15 Captains to
increase the standard crew level in anticipation of additional domestic
flying.
This posting and all pertinent bidding information is available for
download from the pilot.fedex.com website. Additionally, if you are
considering bidding one of the new FDAs, there is a separate file with
much more information about the FDAs.
These are extremely exciting times for Flight Operations as the Company
continues to expand its world-wide express business capabilities. There
is a lot of information in the package and I encourage you to review it
carefully in order to make an informed decision. As always, bid what you
want to fly. The bid opens today, Friday, October 5 and will close at
1500z on Monday, November 19.

Secondary Vacancies
Secondary vacancies will be evaluated at the close of the bid. There is a
possibility that secondary vacancies will not be filled in some seats.

Practice Bid
There will be one practice bid on Tuesday, November 13.

Future Bids
We anticipate publishing the next bid in the Summer 2008 timeframe which
will include the initial posting for the 777 and a likely excess off of
the DC10.

FDA Start Dates
Paris is targeted for a May 2008 start date. Initially, the base will
have two operating 757ís growing to seven operating 757ís by Peak 2008 and
nine operating 757ís by March 2009. We expect to start moving pilots to
Paris in the April/May 2008 timeframe at a rate of 8 to 10 pilots per
month.

The Company anticipates opening the Hong Kong domicile in the March 2008
timeframe. The results of this bid will determine how pilots are
activated into the base but you can expect approximately 8 to 10 pilots
per month beginning March 2008 through December 2008.

Subic Bay will close on December 27, 2008. We anticipate a seven to eight
month transition out of Subic beginning early summer 2008 (again, roughly
8 to 10 pilots per month).

Bidding the FDAís
When bidding for an FDA assignment, the Standing Bid program will prompt
you to agree to sign a CDG/HGK FDA Agreement before accepting your
Standing Bid. Pilots who decline will not be allowed to submit a Standing
Bid containing preference for either FDA. Pilots who bid and are awarded
a vacancy at CDG or HKG will be required to sign a CDG/FDA agreement and
return it to the System Chief Pilot prior to the start of any training or
distribution of any benefits. A hard copy of the CDG/FDA Agreement
contained in this package and is also available under Forms (Printable
Forms) on pilot.fedex.com.

I just want to know what in the world is meant by "practice bid!" Why do you have to practice bidding? Don't you know how to do it by now? ;) It's like swimming or riding a bike or sex.

You had sex with a practice bid?? I didn't even know that was possible....

They've got to make room for all the tech and flex guys...

I still think that the RLA agreement section of the LOA, was probably the most important part of it, to the company anyway.

But, they would have opened the FDAs anyway. Right?

A practice bid allows pilots to put in a bid that they are not really going to keep in the system just to fool other guys into thinking that they can hold a certain position until the actual bid comes out. :rolleyes:

I count a net of 106 new captains.

Comparing the 2008 fleet plan numbers on the bid to the Jan 2007 numbers on the website:


727: Jan. 2007: 107 May 2008: 90 NET: -17 airframes

757: Jan. 2007: 0 May 2008: 3 NET: +3 airframes

A30: Jan 2007: 115 May 2008: 129 NET:+14 airframes

DC10: Jan. 2007: 26 May 2008: 13 NET: -13 airframes

MD10: Jan. 2007: 55 May 2008: 66 NET: +11 airframes

MD11: Jan. 2007: 55 May 2008: 58 NET: +3 airframes


Total fleet change Jan. 2007 to May 2008: 1 aircraft. It's a loss, however of 14 narrowbodies for 15 widebodies.....

Takes about 1.75 captains to do the work or equal the contribution of a good F/O....:D

That's your point of view. However, from the captains viewpoint, it takes at least 2 and sometimes 3 really good f/o's to do the work of the captain. This proves out on long Mad Dog trips, with at least 2 f/o's and only 1 captain.

It takes, one good flight engineer to replace another, because the guys in the front know absolutely nothing about what goes on behind them. But of course, the guys up front could care less.:D
