Exclamation Hiring into FDAs

Any of you Purple drivers know how FedEx feels about hiring into the FDAs? I understand you can't be displaced permanently to an FDA so if no one bids it they will have to hire into them. My worry, since I've been trying for this job for 9 years now, is that they'll restrict the pilots being called to those with heavy experience or type specific experience, much like UPS did with their open water restriction. That doesn't do an RJ driver like me much good. I know new hires have gone into the right seat of the 72 but have new hires ever gotten the bus or mad dog?

Yes. We've hired straight into the MD-11 in ANC and new hires have gone to Subic on the Bus.

It has been that anyone in the pool, that wanted Subic Bay A300 FO, no matter what experience level would get it. Not many actually wanted it, but it was usually always an option.

Ok, here's a question:
As a new hire, do you know if the company will give them the "seed" money and the storage of personal articles at there home or record? As a new hire, they don't yet have a home or record. Just wondering.

Whether you choose the section 6 relocation or the enhanced option, you will get the same benefits as the rest of us who choose to bid an FDA.. The LOA doesn't specifiy that you must have a MEM , ANC or LAX address. It only says you must show receipts to be reimbursed for storage and must stay for 2 years to keep the seed money and housing allowance. We will probably know in approx 30 days if all the FDA slots are filled. We will probably know anywhere from 8-15 months if they decide to put new hires over there. I am sure the company will try to see how the STV works out first, before hiring into an FDA. Time will tell.

A new hire under section 6 does does not qualify for the same seed money. 10k or 79 hrs whatever is greater. Nope sorry you only qualify for 2k. And that is paid at your 1 year mark(ttl). So taking the FDA under the enhanced option I am not sure if it will be 10k or not.

Guy in my class went right to the MD and only had RJ time. So there is always a chance.

The theory was pilots with glass, heavy, and/or international time. There were exceptions, of course.....

Yep.. and more than a few of us with Thousands of hours in HEAVY airplanes, most of that being PIC, flying 85-90% international and with Glass time too were overlooked.. so there are exceptions to every rule
