Fedex & LAX
Read a thread a ways back, that said maybe LAX would be shut down for Fedex. Was that just smoke?? Any new hires going there (when hiring)? What aircraft are based there? Do you fly Pacific routes? Non stops? Any chance the 777 will be based there?
Thanx.

1. Yes, but the rumor still exists. LAX does not fit well with our domestic scheduling "optimizer". However, can't deadhead to Pacific in one duty period from MEM or ANC.
2. New hires at LAX. No, but it is very junior.
3. MD-11s only.
4. Yes. Mostly pacific and west coast domestic. For first officers a lot of RFO (cruise pilot) flying.
5. We do have to stop sometime. Don't get the non-stop question. Don't see to many LAX-LAX flights. Operations: "Hey guys just fly up the coast for about an hour and then comeback, maybe do a quick drop in to SFO for a touch-and-go. We need the cargo back in LAX by midnight."
6. NOT A CHANCE

Actually we just posted 15 Captain vacancies in LAX because the optimizer LIKES the LAX base for Domestic Scheduling. The posting does state the new vacancies are for increases domestic flying.
