New block 7 candidate

New block 7 candidate
Anyone know much about CF, who announced he is running for Block 7?
Anyone close to me knows I have asked several guys to consider running instead of me, including Huck, Sniz, FJ, and a fine gentleman from ATL who is driving C130s that I have forgotten his screen name. (...and I won't use his real name here). If someone new is eager to take on the challenge, I am MORE than willing to step back and spend my time working with my horses.
CF is former military, lives in Olive Branch, and seems to be eager to weigh in. I'd be glad to step back and support him--the advantages of having someone local can be very beneficial--so long as commuter issues aren't forgotten.
I may withdraw my request to serve if this guy can get the job done. That does not mean, however, that I won't throw my weight into the work to be done, especially the improvements in communication and a push towards allowing more "virtual" meetings allowing great participation with the membership.
Nobody I knew wanted to step up--even though we all complain. CF may change that... Anyone have any (civil) thoughts?

I don't know you from Adam (except via this forum). I have no idea who CF is either. Although neither of you are in my LEC, as an MEC member you both could have a positive or negative effect.
My advice is this: You were ticked off enough at your leadership to get involved. What has changed? So what if Some other guy who is probably ticked off like you put his name in the hat. Good on him too.
If you want to run........Then RUN. If you don't then don't, but don't change your mind just because some other guy is running, even if he is a "GOOD" guy.
Besides, it always looks better to have a choice rather than an unopposed candidate. If you beleive the MEC is evil, maybe this guy is an MEC plant.
So my advice is to stay the course if that is what you truely wanted from the start. You are one of the few on this forum that is putting his money where his mouth is.
My 2 cents.

Don't know the guy from a hole in the wall, but remember how you got here Albie. You didn't like what was going on, you investigated the recourses, and found out how political things are. You've already mentioned that things have gotten a bit icy as far as help from ALPA on your candidacy. Before you bow out make sure you know who is behind the candidate you are endorsing, not just whether or not you agree with his/her opinions. In politics the former is more important than the latter. Again I don't know CF and am making no claims about him/her, just my two cents as to how I would proceed in that situation.

ALBIE,
As many others on this forum do, I know you only from internet correspondence (here, FlightInfo, etc.) That being said, I think you would make an outstanding representative.
If CF is the CF I'm thinking of, I have known him for many years. I'm not sure why he wants to hold a position like this, but if he does, he would make a great contribution on behalf of the crewforce. In my experience he has always had the gift of knowing when B.S. is B.S., even when everyone else is smelling roses. He's had my back in many a bar brawl, to boot! (Not that that has any merit in this instance)
I certainly wouldn't want you to back away from pursuing anything you thought was worthy of pursuit, but if you had doubts, CF is a fine man for the job.

We have talked in the past about your positions and how you feel a block rep should operate, and I hope that you decide to stay in the race!
After reading CF's email, I didn't get the impression that his focus is entirely where it needs to be. COMMUNICATION obviously needs to improve, but I don't need a block rep working on me receiving better "O" Grams or squashing crewbus rumors. I want to know what HE is going to do about it in regards to Block 7! I didn't get anything from his email regarding his thoughts or willingness to stand up for the members of Block 7, regardless of what the MEC says. After the Age 60 & LOA turmoil, things like ADEQUATE & EFFECTIVE BLOCK REPRESENTATION are on my radar; you definitely seem to share that mindset. Your attitude towards this job is what is sorely needed; hang in there!

Albie,
I'm not in your block. But you know the only way to be sure commuter issues and others are correctly dealt with is for you to run.
If I was in your block I wouldn't care that you wouldn't be at every hub turn meeting or other MEC sales opportunities. We know you would be available via internet and phone. Being in the ALPA offices more often not does equate to more real work getting done.
You will get knives thrust into your back from some for not be as available as a local guy, but those you fight for will understand and appreciate what you accomplish. I feel you will handle the important issues better. You will not be a sheep. Some in our group are sheep and want another sheep to reassure them. Don't be swayed by them.
You will be a new, critical thinker on the board and it will be good for us. Don't quit.
I bet the MEC is hoping you do quit. Is that reason enough to keep running?

Albie,
I liked the E Mail with some big reservations. Was communication the only thing wrong with how the MEC handled Age 60 and the LOA?
Conversely, I would like to know why/how somebody got canned. Is it true they tracked someones cell phonecall to prove he violated the 100nm rule (or was it a company black helicopter)?
I am a little suspicious, how was CF able to send me an official communication and you can't. Should I look for ALPA Black helicopters?
Stay in the race.
