Rental cars in Memphis
#2
Travelocity or Aol.com both have good car deals that are hard to beat even with company discounts. Give them a shot...
My Gulf Coast commuting means sometimes I have to "flow" into VPS or TLH, or even DHN. I burn a lot of "cost of doing business" bucks on rentals. I also go to strange cities and small towns with major airports and rent from FBOs at times. Some things I've found...
Hertz is usually worth 5 bucks more if you need a quick turn or easy downtown drop off.
Alamo is almost always cheapest...BUT...woe to ye who darest change the reservation in any form. Extensions, early drop offs, or other changes almost always incur a penalty fee. Many times you are better off turning in the car and grabbing another on another contract IF you need to extend it.
Enterprise--when open--is remarkably flexible.
Good luck...

Used Avis once out of the airport because my airporter died on me. The rate was around 29/day for a car while every other rental place had either no cars or the rate or was around 55 to 60 bucks a day. And Avias stays open till midnight so I was able to drop off the car and they even gave me a ride right back to AOC..........

I too am cheap and looked all over for a cheap rental for my 3 months at training. It's not the rate that kills you it's the tax. If you rent from anyone at the airport (hertz, alamo, etc) it's something like 40%. I found two places off airport--one was a toyota dealership, but they weren't renting while they reorganized, and Not So Used Rentals (http://www.notsoused.com/) , and if you rent there the tax is 15% for 30 days or less and 9% if longer. I went with notsoused and it worked out fine.
