Default Frozen trips and open time???

I've read all the posts I could find on the frozen trips, but I cannot find any definitive information on the release and pick up of these trips. I've not received any reply from Flt Mgt. I just emailed my rep (block 2) and haven't received a response yet.

For a specific example, Trip 3382/5Nov was in open time and showed as frozen. On Thursday it was still there, but a F/O had been assigned (mgt) and it was still frozen. On Friday evening, it was gone. No display in open time at all. But if you pulled the trip up, it was still there but no Captain. Then early Saturday a Captain was assigned.

This happened last month also, but this is the most current one. I'm watching 2149/6Nov to see if the same thing happens.

Are these ever released to line pilots? Why do they suddenly disappear? And how does mgt (and others) get priority to pick them up?

Seems a little shady here, and I've not found anything in any of the information from ALPA except to say it is IAW the CBA.

Any inputs?

Thanks.

The previous thread about this subject was pulled due to security concerns. Please do not post anything that is sensitive in nature. No I'm not talking about management pilots picking up trips before they're offered to everyone else--I myself would like an answer to that.

FDXer, That was my point on the thread I started that was pulled. These trips go right to the top of the Open Time list meaning the start date is within 48 hours and they are still frozen. Suddenly they go away and the next thing you see if you look the pairing up is mgmt. or senior school house pilots. Case in point is pairing 3233 on 5NOV for MD F/O MEM. Went to a captain and it was on the F/O open time list. Also this was released some time in the wee hours last night.

I would like to know if this pairing was first properly awarded to an F/O in accordance with the CBA? He would of then been immediately bumped because I was watching this pairing closely until I had to give up and get some sleep.

I have some of the same concerns but security sensitive destinations were brought in by other users and the thread had to be pulled. I think pilots should be able to pick these up and get bumped from them if a management pilot needs to fly it. Just my .02.

Sounds like a good question for Contract Enforcement

This is covered in Chapter 9 of the CBA, there are a few exceptions listed, but basically they either have to bump a pilot or pay the Union. In fact ALPA asked for reports of such trips to help them track and ensure Compliance with the CBA. Doesn't make it any easier on those of us who would like to pick up these trips, but hopefully we can track them and make sure that ALPA gets the pay credit.

2. If a management pilot bumps a line pilot from his scheduled
trip or a portion thereof, in accordance with other provisions of
this Agreement, the line pilot shall receive the scheduled credit
hours and deviation credit, if any, for the trip, or portion thereof,
notwithstanding Section 8.C.2.a. (trips fl own).
3. If a management pilot flies a trip, or portion thereof, covered
by this Agreement and it is not possible to identify the line pilot
who would have been bumped and otherwise would be entitled
to compensation as described in Section 9.A.2. (above), the
scheduled credit hours for such trip, or portion thereof, either
shall be paid to the Association or offset against monies owed by
the Association to the Company pursuant to Section 18.C. The
value of any monies owed or offset pursuant to this paragraph
shall be determined by multiplying the number of credit hours
fl own by the average hourly pay rate system wide for the crew
status in which the management pilot fl ew.

I picked up a fz trip a couple months ago, right before it got frozen. It was one of the earthquake relief flights to Lima, Peru. I was then notified I was assigned by mistake and taken off and offered sub or CMU since it was non-rev trip. I now have a nice little CMU bank with 24 CHs in it! It was subsequently filled by mgmnt pilots.

I was awarded on of those "fz" trips in October from Open Time (I had OTP because I declined SUB) and was immediately bumped by management. A good deal for me since I'm just an "average" line pilot -- bumped on a 40+hour trip @ 125%.

Money, for the trip above, where it dh's to, you either need a visa, or you have to be a managment pilot. LAX had a dh to that city a couple years ago, the crew that got it was bumped by JL and someone else when the visa requirement was figured out. As for the other trip you mentioned, no ideas...

Two management bubbas were assigned this trip ... however, MEM guys fly/dh to these destinations all the time. No visas required. I'm not sure you have any idea what you are talking about, maybe you are a management plant?
