new standing bid?

No grassy knoll talk here, but....
You'all know the 757 training department is in a huge changeover, right?
The guys who got the types over the summer were all told no passover pay immediately before the final bid so many (or all) decided to b bid what they could hold.
I would have done the same and I think we should support their decision...
But the issue is how firm can those 757 training dates possibly be? They are guesstimates. The company has to train up a new training department first.

Notes from GS.....Man Dir tng......no hiring for 18 months except FDA F/Os. Expect another bid in Jan for FDA F/Os just to see if any have changed their minds and want to bid it....which if more do, equates to less hiring as we are overmanned. They have a supprising number of aps from guys with 757 and A-300/310 time which will give them a leg up. They consider A-320 time to be equivalent. There is a rumor about us "parking" jets after peak....he said none to the desert but they may put 4-5 widebodies into required mx early. Good/bad for poolies, depending on their background and desires....... but news is news.....

Way back when (98), when I was ANC and bid back to MEM, I just swapped with another guy going to ANC and we both swapped almost as soon as the bid was closed.

Did you switch with the more senior ANC guy per the training letter or did you switch with the MEM guy for a 1:1 swap? Good gouge, thanks.

I was the junior guy on the MD-11 in ANC (actually the whole company). The training letter had me transferring based on seniority, IIRC. Basically I was near the end of the training letter. Someone else on the MEM list was scheduled to go to ANC at some later date per the training letter. We basically just did a one for one swap and each of us got to our new domiciles months early. I went from the bottom of ANC list (11 months) to the bottom of the MEM list, for about 5 months!

Well just food for thought.
Who trains our 1st group of Instructors? How can they get trained?
They get trained in ATL by DAL or in DEN by UAL or MSP by NWA or wherever they can get 757 instruction.
When I was a new hire I was trained in DFW by American instructors.
