About to quit UPS

Scope
If you're concerned about scope, talk to the FedEx guys ASAP. As crappy and loophole ridden as our scope clause is, the purple guys have it worse. The rest of your questions..... sorry no answer after 8+ years of Brownage. By the way, even gay Thai smelly pirate hookers have more self respect than UPS manglers.! (vbseg)

ToStayorGo,
Remember one very important fact: Fed-EX is an airline with trucks...UPS is a trucking company with Airplanes. The guys at the top are truck driver/loaders etc..they worked very hard and toiled slinging boxes..to climb up the corporate ladder. Remember UPS started in 1905!!!then in 1988 we buy jets and soon after, a 3rd year Pilot makes way more than a 20 year ground guy...this breeds a certain degree of resentment. Also, like many state, the culture of UPS has been the management versus the Teamsters...good old fashioned rough and tumble give and take....Personally I don't have alot of issues with UPS, I fly my Jet they pay me...I'm not looking for a pat on the back, or a gold star or smily face in my V-file... I smile at everyone and anytime I've had a problem, a solution was found to everyones benefit. UPS is my JOB...if your looking for some kind of self actualization or inner self worth from your employer then Southwest or Jet-Blue may be your ticket. I make good money, soon to be much more, my wife is hot, got a nice house and a great life, the only thing UPS contributes to this is the money from my work...the rest comes from elsewhere...Take care of your "elsewhere" and soon You won't care so much about the nit-noid stuff at UPS....it ain't much better anywhere else. Go look at Southwest's schedules! it would take me 6 months to fly what they do in a month! and my Fed-Ex buddy is positive UPS is better than Fed-EX! go figure!...drink a beer grab a babe....and be happy to have a job you can count on! Remember Delta guys LOVED GOING to WORK...think they would trade today?
Really, don't sweat it...it always works out in the end!
Hope to fly with You one day!

Sounds like your mind is made up. I hated the place when I got here 16 years ago. All I can tell you is that you are through the hard part and it will only get better from here. If you are set on going, go. You will never be treated here as well as you will at purple, but you will have a good job here.

I’m a relatively new guy too. While I realize those who have been here from the beginning have a lot more experience with the company than myself, I simply haven’t seen the “this company hates you” attitude so many here preach on a daily basis. Again, I haven’t been here for 18 years and I'm sure a lot of those guys have valid reasons for feeling the way they do.
But if you read the B&G regularly you would think working for UPS is one step down from being a POW. In the short time I’ve been here, I’ve had my entire uniform paid for (minus brown shoes), a flight bag and over-night bag given to me, a crew meal waiting for me on half the flights I’ve commuted on and virtually every trade request I’ve submitted to move reserve days has been approved. I had an incredibly friendly release-to-the-line check, an uneventful PC and SVT and some of the best initial training I’ve had in my career.
That said, is the first year salary insulting? Absolutely! Are the boarding stairs placed next to the aircraft unsafe? They sure do wobble a lot! Is DH’ing across the Atlantic Ocean on a 767 JS cruel and unusual punishment? Probably.
Do I think UPS hates me? Well, if they do, other than 1st year salary they haven’t given me a clear signal yet. But I have to admit, I’ve been brainwashed to a degree and will probably always be very tentative around UPS managers. That’s not because those managers have given me any reason to be suspect. It’s because a lot of the guys here beat it into your head that managers are the enemy.
Will some of the things mentioned above improve in the next contract? Almost for sure. Have I regretted coming to UPS? Not for a minute!
I think the VERY first thing I learned the day I became an airline pilot was “seniority is everything.”
Do you want to give up nearly a year of seniority to go the bottom somewhere else? That’s a decision only you can make.
