Sick no Sick?
I called in sick this morning and recieved the confirmation, but I was assigned a trip this afternoon and I didn't get removed from the trip. Its showing on my calender and then sick after the trip.
Thoughts? |
Is it your shoulder?
|
That's very strange indeed. Have you called either crew scheduling or your ACP? Let us know the outcome, please.
|
I'm looking at it again, the trip assignment is over a day and a half away, maybe it will drop out closer.
|
I am assuming you are on reserve, correct? Not unusual for the trip to show up on your calendar and then later be removed, sick time deducted and leveling added.
All a formality. Out of curiousity...what is the time until show? |
All right, figured it out.
Trip is < 120 TAFB and there is 39hours to show. So I will need to call in Well by 7AM the Day prior. End result is the trip will get droped Friday at 7a. Wow, that was stressful. |
I believe it depends on what time you actually called in sick. If it were past 0700 LBT, trips that start the next day won't be removed until 0700 LBT of the day after you called in sick. If you called in before 0700 LBT, then I believe that you next-day trip would be removed at 0700. I'm not positive about the above, but I believe it's correct. Let us know what you find out.

I have had them call me for a international show time and been puzzled/nervous... Phone rings and
"Hey you have a show time of ...." Aren't I on the Sick List? (and you're thinking aren't I on sick list???) hmmm "Oh NO! OOPS we need to get someone on that trip. Sorry to bother you." Makes you nervous at first because we are always guilt till proven innocent. I have had the trip stay in calender for sometime afterward, but as long as you have the ref number you should be good to go. Cover you A$$... H |

As long as you have a ref number for your sick call why sweat it. I keep a folder (by month) on my computer's desk top and and every time VIPS generates a ref number, I 'save page as..' and drop it into the desktop folder. Any questions pop up and I have a record. Always check 6... |
When I call in sick I tell them, "I'm sick until further notice." If they want clarification they can always call me back. I won't answer the phone however. I don't fly for one of the cargo airlines though so perhaps this reply doesn't belong here.
|
Our company computer system assumes the same thing: that you're sick until you call back in, well. After some amount of time however, you can expect a call from flight admin, just checking to see if you're still of this earth. A reasonable approach I believe.

Yup.
If you bid reserve, you have to sit well for at least ONE R-day in the bid month inorder to get paid for the other 15 you stayed out sick for. |
Final result was it droped out the day prior.

Is this true? I didn't realize there was any requirement to sit reserve if you called in sick.

If you call in sick for the entire bid month (i.e. you are sick the entire time and never sit even one day) they will go back and dock your entire RLG from your sick bank, regardless of how few times they tried to use you that month. |

If you call in sick on reserve they typically only take sick hours out of your bank when they schedule you for a trip.

I had 8 days of vacation during a RSV month. I knocked out 11 days with it. Then I worked a makeup trip. I called in sick for the 4 remaining R days. At the end of the month I was "billed" for those 4 R days. "They" said that I didn't work any days that month. What they meant to say is that I didn't work any of my remaining scheduled R days. I went to my ACP who was SM. He took my case up to Crew Pay and Crew Skeds. He came back and said..."We lost...We need to change that in the contract!" I'm holding my breath.:( |

If you go to the PFC copy of the CBA (HTML) you can see all the grievances (click on the scales). There is one in the vacation section that applies to LIFTR case.

To me, it appeared you did "work" that month --- but your "work days" were covered by your vacation bank. |

Liftr, while I'm no fan of our contract enforcement office (accepted fares debacle), have you gone to them for help? You ought to get them involved and get an answer from management through them.
In theory great advice; in practice.... But here is the grievance, liftr is SOL: https://pilot.fedex.com/contract/cba...ling_01-14.pdf |
