Here's the latest rumor I've heard floating around. This has been discussed in some capacity but I'd like to hear what you guys think:

The MEC is going to renegotiate the LOA with the company to include all the side letters (deposit assistance, etc.). They will then re-run the bid and allow the over-60 crowd to fall where they lay. This will kill 2 birds with one stone, it will finalize the LOA mumbo-jumbo and will also give the Geezers a bid to come back to a window seat.

It seems like a pretty plausible rumor, what have you heard?

I was talking with the LEC22 Rep the other day and he said that FDX ALPA was indeed going to try to renegotiate the LOA with the company. He made no mention however of another bid, or re-doing the last one. However, our conversation had nothing to do with any of those issues, so he might have been inclined to just not mention it.

This could get good.....

I heard from non pilot types (not the crew van drivers either) there would be a bid in January for HKG and Paris.

So, in that rumor, what happens to those awarded an upgrade in the current bid? Are you saying it would be canceled?

The junior guys awarded captain slots in HKG and CDG would scream and holler if the bid were cancelled. Rightfully so in some respects...

Or...

The company could possibly fill the slots completely with a re-bid (maybe), or at worst boot out some junior guys and replace them with over 60 types while STILL hiring a few to fill the FO slots.

Or...

The company could also offer a new bid just to fill the FO slots and see if there were any last minute folks who wanted to try it.

As just another fly on the wall, not yet an MEC member, and a guy who isn't bidding overseas...anything I say is pure speculation. But--if I had a 757 program that was a wreck, a bunch of over 60 types that needed a job, and was facing hiring new guys in the wake of an economic downturn while overmanned...well...I could see a case for a re-bid. Then I'd offer a sweet training over-ride to attract some of those who bid the domicile to do the training--AFTER doing the right thing and working out something with the union this time. There may be many guys who would not take the bait and would support those guys who walked out, but if faced with being a 757 or A300 captain and making some training bucks or riding the pine sideways for 3-5 more years...I gotta few bets on the outcome.

Words used to describe a bid cancellation I've heard include "unprecedented". Nothing I've heard describes it as "illegal" or "against the contract".

If so--who would win? Any over 60 guy gutsy enough to do the FDA thing.

Losers--anyone knocked off the bid or the guys who thought they'd be on top of the list.

Disclaimer: All of this is after 7 hours on the road with hyped up pre-Christmas family and followed by a Jack and Coke. There is nothing here but pure wild-@ss speculation.

Also on the loser side, guys like me who thought after 9 years trying to get this job there would be a glimmer of hope to get on with the FDA openings. It seems that the FedEx door may be slammed shut again. I guess I should be used to this by now.

In what respect would it be wrongfully so?
