It's too bad the pilots at the top could cause a pay cut for the entire crew force. I guess they just can't squeak by on that 200K a year. Oh by the way, do they have to give the VEBA back now that they are not retiring? It's for age 60 to 65 retirees to tide them over till Medicare kicks in. I love paying the way for others, my kids can just go to community college!!!

Chainsaw,
Were you hoping for furlough instead of a BLG reduction? Granted a BLG reduction is being discussed and may not happen, but what do you really want if something ends up happening? Think realistically.
The senior guys didn't make the company overhire. If a pay cut (BLG reduction) is enacted to keep the low guys on the property (if it came to that) I would think it would be great thing.
BTW, the SWA bubbas did it after 9/11. They could have furloughed but they reduced the flying hours on each line instead. The guys on the bottom were thankful. Some other airline pilots flew extra as furloughes were going out the door and kept them out longer. Delta, UAL. I would rather be a brotherhood rather than a group of independent contractors. Funny thing, UAL and Delta are ALPA too. So far our ALPA (us) is a cut above Delta and UAL's ALPA. I would like it to stay that way.

I agree with the common thread here... good job O... leading from the front is a nice change. Wonder if he'd be interested in a public office?
As for the lowering of BLG... he said probably.. so can we minimze this with less carryover? mmm I'll start a new thread on that one.
Happy New Year everyone....

Is that so? You mean the 500+ guys returning from "retirement" are not making the company overmanned?
Wake Up! ALPA just handed every guy here a big turd for their New Year's gift. And I bet the company anticipated this, letting the ALPA greed play right into their plans to gut the pay increases in the contract.
And guys here don't think we need to hire professional negotiators?

Are you sure?

I know my math has been off, at times, posting comments. But, 500 plus? I don't know where you get that many, unless you're just taking some dramatic license.
If you look at the latest "cancelled" posting, you can get a rough idea of just how many by looking at employee #'s in the back seats. The DC10 had a bunch of guys go back to 727s/o but 100 60+ guys remain in the back of the 10. The back of the Boeing has about half the seats with 60+ types, 250 or so. 350 total, guestimate.
I just don't know where the other 150+ guys are that you talk about. Of course I could be wrong.
