Posting 08-01
FCIF 08-0002 (Admin)

Issued: 01/02/08 1723z
Source: P C
Suspense: 12/31/08
Approved: P C

Attached, please find Posting 08-01 dated January 2, 2008. As indicated
in my communication last week, this posting provides for the
redistribution of crew positions to best match our staffing needs.
You will notice that this posting includes additional MD11 and Airbus
captain positions relative to Posting 07-03. Please refer to the package
of information posted on “pilot.fedex.com” (posting 07-03) for those of
you interested in an FDA position. This information has not changed.

As always, it is extremely important that you update your standing bid and
that it reflects what you want to fly. The bid opens Wednesday, January
2, 2008 and will close at 1500z on Monday, February 18, 2008.

Secondary Vacancies
Secondary vacancies will be evaluated at the close of the bid. There is a
possibility that secondary vacancies will not be filled in some seats.

Practice Bid
There will be three practice bids; January 16 (Wednesday), January 30
(Wednesday) and February 13 (Wednesday).

Future Bids
We anticipate publishing the next bid in the late spring/early summer 2008
timeframe which will likely include an excess off of the DC10. Given our
current staffing levels, it is unlikely that we will be hiring in the
foreseeable future.

Fleet Plan 727 757 DC10* Airbus MD10 MD11 777
May 2008 90 2 13 129 66 58 -
May 2009 79 16 4 137 74 60 -
May 2010 75 32 - 138 80 60 5

* DC10 excludes aircraft removed from service for modification

It is really going to get interesting. Scenario: You had HKG or CDG Capt as your second choice, but were awarded a MD-11 or A-300 Capt slot that has now been cancelled. Now, with the over 60 guys, you can't hold anything. Is that fair?

Purpledriver 01-02-2008 08:36 AM

Any bets on the over 60 crowd taking the FDA's?

May not be fair, but it's in the contract. I guess I'd have to say it is was it is.

I think you mean: "They are who we thought they were."

Any doubts that this fun and games for the last 10 days was simply to fill the FDAs. I wouldn't doubt this has been the game plan since the first practice on the last bid. If they get the union to lower the Min BLG: "BONUS"

R1200RT 01-02-2008 08:44 AM

What gets me the numbers are very close to the original bid. I think they are just giving the old guys what they want.

Any bets on how fast GC gets over his disability so he participate in the bid?

Bingo. Age 65 passes, it is emphasized that >60 yoa S/O can not move back up front without a bid, 80+ captain spots suddenly become available (even though we are fat in every seat), the is ink not even dry on the new law, and the company gets a second chance to fill the FDA F/O spots. Sounds like a win-win for all except the group that always loses. Who might that be?

Excellent question, I would think anyone who ends up losing a slot who could have otherwise held on the first bid would have a strong case.

Always, print a copy of your standing bid before the bid closes !

Stay tuned..

How about guys who held the 75 in Mem in both seats? Now they can't hold that either. I guess all the LCAs in the 75 will be over 60 guys.

How is it that the company can just cancel those awards and then open another bid?

Sounds like our iron clad scope improvements in the LOA.

Looks like the company is in cahoots with the MEC to get BC, JL and the rest of the over 60 guys back into flying seats ASAP.

Nice.

Thanks again APAAD, ALPA, and DW.
