Message from the MEC
January 8, 2008
The MEC will hold a hub turn meeting at the AOC this evening, Tuesday night/Wednesday morning beginning at 12:30 a.m. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the recent regulatory age change and bid cancellation.
I appreciate that ALPA is trying to "do a better job of communicating with the crew force" but, did they just decide at 2 o'clock this afternoon that they were going to have a hub meeting tonight? I don't recall any previous advisory of an AOC hub turn meeting for this evening. Is this really the most efficient and productive way to let us know about a union meeting...less than 12 hours prior?

I couldn't hold back laughter when I got the email....Everyone has been begging for information and Alpa decides last minute, oh wow, people are interested in this topic...this is a good time to communicate.
NOW, before anyone says "well, maybe they didn't have anything to communicate and thats why they didn't hold a meeting or send out a release",,.....well, tell us that, and tell us what your learning EVERY DAY! Don't just play I have a secret....
ALPA should be ashamed of themselves. I hope Albie and Vic can change the tide.

8 hours notice? I guess we don't deserve more notice than that? Thanks ALPA! I just emailed my block rep and asked why our union does these "pop-up" union meetings? Is it possible to get a written summary of what was discussed?

Accountablity....
I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a MEC-written summary. During the numerous AOC meetings discussing the LOA, Our MEC Chairman was very specific on this issue. FDX ALPA liked the 'verbal' aspect of the meetings.
I guess once you start putting things in writing, accountability raises it's ugly head, lawyers enter the room and the excuse, "I can't remember exactly what I said" flies out the window.
However, this sword cuts both ways....in defense against the Company on one side. On the other, it gives the MEC wiggle room when dealing with disgruntled Union members (just my opinion).
Remember the old saying: "What the Captain really meant to say ..."

Hub Meeting
We have discussed this on APC before. We have all these full time officers and staff and we can't get the info out about a hub meeting until 12 hours before. Pitiful. This should be the first question asked. I only wish I was going to be there. I hope the folks in attendance respectfully take whoever shows up to task. And accept nothing but a respectful answer. (note to you DW) Last week I stated on here that I had $50 if DW would show his face in a hub turn meeting. If he shows, my email to him will be sent tomorrow. He can pocket the cash, or I'll give it to his favorite charity. Our leadership has failed us, but it's up to us to force them to represent our interests, not theirs. For those who are going to be there, stand up and let them know your displeasure and we are not going to take it anymore.

The 60+ % of those who do not live in Memphis couldn't get there on the Concorde with notice like that. Guess it works if your life doesn't involve much more than driving down Poplar every day.
It just keeps getting better and better...

I'd like more notice, but in all honesty, who's going to a night hub turn meeting unless they are working that night? They could give 3 days notice for a night hub turn meeting and unless i was scheduled to be there, I 'd skip it.
I guess I am part of the problem.
Now I will be at the MEC meeting next week

I know the hub-turn mtg is about the change to the regulated age; however, could someone who is attending the meeting please ask if there has been any negogiations or side-letter agreement regarding the 757 LCAs/Flexs?
I'd imagine there will be an "open questions" forum at the end of the mtg, and I think this is an important question given the fact the 757 Capt slots in Memphis are now being "re-bid".
I appreciate any posts summarizing what when on at the meeting.
Mahalo.
