Opinions on ANC transfer situation? Anyone?
OK,, I know what opinions are like and that they all stink. My wife is driving me bananas about my award being cancelled. Anyone care to give an opinion as to what will happen in my (admittedly very specific) situation.. Treat it like an office pool maybe?
Here's the situation: I had an award for a domicile switch to Anchorage from Memphis. It was cancelled. I am projected to be fairly senior in the right seat up there (15%) and was in top 5 FOs for ANC on the cancelled bid. I've been with FedEx 7 years.
What I'm asking opinions about is the possibility of holding ANC again on this bid, or will the over 60s fill all front end seats including ANC 11F. Also whether secondary bids will again be offered, like Posting 07-03.
I'm not necessarily concerned either way, but for my wife's sanity (and mine because of her concerns) I would be much obliged if anyone has an idea how all of this may pan out... Thank you very much for any responses.

Or, just tell her to go ahead and move to Anchorage...And, you'll meet her there.
But seriously, I doubt any age60+ guy is going to bid ANC F/O. And, if he does...Sounds like you'll be senior to him, anyway.

would it surprise you to know that one form of "logic" that's being applied by some of these guys is - "wouldn't YOU rather be an MD-11 F/O than any kind of S/O?......I would"...?
The problem is there are no Primary Vacancies for ANC F/O. So, to get ANC F/O (even WHEN they bid it - and you can be sure they WILL), there has to be a Secondary Vacancy created by some F/O's moving out of the seat, AND the company has to choose to fill it - IF it is created.
If ALL the Primary Captain vacancies (system-wide) are filled by over 60s, there will be no ripple effect of Secondary Vacancies because there are none going "out the top" this time - everyone else essentially will just be stuck in place with nowhere to move to - except the FDA's.......hmmmmmm.......
Given only 5 Captain vacancies in ANC (and no F/Os), and 5+ geezers from ANC coming back/staying/wanting to come back - don't expect any/very many if any Secondary ANC F/O vacancies this time (unlike the cancelled bid - I mean modified bid - I mean individually cancelled awards - ALL of them.....whatever)
But, if there ARE secondary F/O vacancies created, you can BET there will be some over 60s that would settle for that job over their S/O seat in MEM.
Sorry - us under 60s are hosed again. Thank DW for doing the "right thing"
IMO.....this re-bid is SOLELY to allow all the over 60s to "exercise their seniority" and get back to the front (left or right) seats under the guise of changing economic conditions, blah, blah, blah.... - what other possible reason could there be for the "re-do"?
prediction: minimal number of UNDER-60s will be awarded anything new with this bid. (I hope and pray I'm wrong - but I don't think so)
all brought to you courtesy of FDX ALPA and DW personally - thanks!! more lube please - ouch!!
JMO....FWIW.
But, like the other guys said - no need to stress/worry about it, 'cause there's nothing you can do except bid what you want and hope for the best - the rest is a done deal.

You really think those 60+ guys are going to bid the right seat in ANC...When an excess bid is just around the corner?
Don't answer that. It doesn't really matter what we think. And, it would constitute thread drift. I don't think they allow that, here.

Thanks very much, boys! All responses on both sides of the fence were very helpful for my wife... The main issue for her is she hates living where we are but we don't have hometowns to go back to because of particular extended family issues. Maybe I'll just bid CDG Capt as second choice in order to get out of the east central Mississippi town we're in...
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

Well, that may be your opinion, but it really has more to do with mitigating multiple training costs and avoiding the eventual excess with the near deads exercising their seniority.
Imagine if the bid stood, then the neardeads were excessed and created an excess in another seat that then caused someone to get displaced after training for the aircraft they were just excessed from. (I know there is some verbage which limits movement to an FDA that would create and excess at the FDA, so whether ANC should have been included in the cancellation is up to those who would rather debate on here than have a life).
I would like to see the old relics just go away gracefully, but if that ain't gonna happen, then this is the smartest way to absorb them....as disappointing as it is.
It's a bummer, it sucks, maybe coulda been anticipated, but from this position, it is probably the best way to go from here.
I realize there will be the inevitable rebuttal to this....I probably won't read it anytime soon....
On another note....don't you think Romo, when asked this weekend about Jessica Simpson and Mexico is privately thinking...."heck yeah it was worth it!"
