Well, not if you include the stress caused by lost pensions, fear of buyouts, mergers, flying 95 hours a month, etc. Then I think the stats will be pretty even...

I believe the study quoted here was conducted by Boeing several years ago. It included all employees, mechanics, technicians, secretaries, etc. Interesting numbers for sure.

Yeah I looked into this info when I first saw it. It is accurate, but old.

One thing that (I think) is hidden in the data is personality.

Meaning: there are certain people who are defined by their job, and without it have no life. These are the people who literally work until they die. If forced to stop working, they die anyway (just like people who are married for 50 years who die within a year of their spouse dying).

Read into this what you will, but this is what I see: the over-60 guys hanging on to anything resembling an airline job (the back of the Boeing at 60? Are you kidding me?) are the types who are defined by their job. Take their job away, and you remove their reason for living.

The people who retire on time (or early) have managed to find something outside of flying airplanes to define themselves, and will most likely lead long and happy retirements.

Again, just my amateur analysis.

Old and inaccurate data.

In all honesty, do you really believe that FDX pilots will live longer by working longer? How about the fact (per the practice bid), that those over 60 will be flying the MEM 757, which according to mgmt, is going to have the same schedules as the 727. AM hub turning for over 60 year olds, good luck collecting on your pension after 65. IMHO, those pilots are simply digging their own graves.

That way the company will save money on pensions -- then the seniority list will really start moving
