Fedex at LAX
I find it interesting that OAK and not LAX is coinsidered a major "hub" for Fedex on their web site. Do LAX pilots/flights originate from OAK? Also, looking for info. on LAX. Aircraft operated, Int./Dom. routes, seniority on aircraft types, commuting from PHX (possible)?
Bigger deal.. B777 or B757 entering fleet?
Thank you from a Fedex want-a-be!

OAK is like IND and EWR, major operations but no crew base.
LAX is a MD10/11 crew base, primarily due to the ease of DHing a crew to PAC Rim and back. I don't work for FDX, but those I have talked to say that it will take several years on the seniority list to get based in LAX due to the wide body pay of the MD fleet. With the FDAs, I think it will be even more so shortly.

One is a hub the other is a domicile! LAX domiciled pilots' trips originate and terminate in LAX, either with live legs or deadheads. ONT and BUR, I believe, are also considered part of the LAX domicile. LAX pilots operate the MD-11/MD-10.
OAK, like EWR, IND, AFW, and, soon, GSO, are considered hubs, but have no pilots based there.
757's entering flight operations this summer, the 777 maybe the end of next year or later.
LAX is somewhat senior. Any new hires would most likely end up overseas (we are in the process of trying to man pilot bases in CDG and HKG, before being able to hold LAX. But commuting is possible from anywhere, though, in many cases, not practical.

Maybe you're psychic (since none of the fedex guys have been told this)? Will you please post the Power Ball numbers? Thanks

seefive "Fedex won't be hiring for approx. 3 years so i wouldn't worry about it now. Keep plugging along and building hours for when the hiring starts again." Jan. 20, 2008
Sorry to revive an old thread, but I was looking for some info about the OAK ramp and came across this. SEEFIVE, any chance you could give us all some good stock tips or Powerball numbers?
